Has anyone had this problem? My door ajar light stays on when all doors are properly shut and will usually go off after driving for a while. If the light is on the power door lock on the drivers door doesn't work. Also, when the key is in, and the engine off it beeps like I left the lights on.
It seems to do this everytime I start it, and of course my warranty ran out last week! The dealer said to spray some penatrating oil on the door latch as the door switch is built into the latch, I've done this several times with no results. I,ve also played with the wires going from the door to the body and it didn't change anything.
I have an 03 Explorer and the door ajar light comes on periodically, too. Today, the Ford dealer is working on another problem with the MAF sensors, and said the door ajar problem was caused by a malfuncitioning motor in the door. This sounded supiscious to me, so I decided to live with it. The dealer recently replaced the battery, and I think that had something to do with the alarm. Several of my alarm systems, (door ajar, keys in ignition, service engine soon, window not going down, locks not opening, etc) are going off occasionnaly since they did the battery.
My Ecplorer has always been great! Not one single problem. I have maintained it religiously, since I purchased it new. I took it to the dealer for routine maintenance (power steering flush, transmission flush, battery, wipers) and have had problems ever since.
I see that the wd-40 will fix it if its just a intermitent door ajar light. But has anyone found a fix for the problems I have listed, along with many others with the same symptoms?
Thanks for the replys! I will try the WD-40. Reading on this site in other places, I saw something about spraying something on the door locks to help the problem. I think I'll stay away from the Ford dealer, they cause more problems than they fix.
Thanks again.
I'm going to take the door panel off and check the wireing inside , I see that there are two small bolts on the btm, will it just pry off after the 2 bolts are removed? I don't want to crack my door panel!!
I pulled the door panel off and found nothing, but I did end up finding that if I turn the interier light dimmer switch off everything works fine, other than the int light don't come on when I open the doors. If I turn the switch on and open the door it acts up again! Could it be in the dimmer switch? Its just weird that it only affects the locks on the drivers door.
It's very likely the door ajar switch.. these go bad all the time. I had the same problem, replacement using instructions from Alldata was pretty easy (if you're handy). The old switch was very "sticky", and that was what was causing the problem. That comment that a dealer made about a "motor" causing the problem--sounds like BS to me.
I had all these symptoms and more. As it turns out it was the wiring harness as it goes into the door. The door has a rubber gromet where the wires pass through the door, the gromet fell off and the wires wore down till they started to short out. You will get all sorts of electrical problems related to the wires in the door. I took it to the dealer and they knew just what to look for. They told me they have already fixed 3 of them. They laughed and told me I was lucky they had seen it before, the first guy had to pay for them to hunt down the problem. hope this helps.
