In my town there is one cop always after the young guys, well today he got me.... claiming I was doing 30 over the limit. Well I know i was doing 5-10 over the limit but am positive I wasn't doing 80. What I am wondering is does anyone know at what distance a radar has to be to tell the speed of an object? This just doesn't seem right to me. Not to mention his car was hidden (illeagal in my province) and he claims to have seen me where it wasn't possible for him to have. Oooh this guy makes me mad.

Have you had your speedo checked lately? As for radar, there are variables that can effect the distance. Heat, hills, curves, if another vehicle is ahead or behind you.
It's his word against yours in court. And unless you have the money and witnesses in court to prove that this cop is out to get the young kids, don't bother.
My wife's uncle is a member of the RCMP. He says to fight a ticket, ask when the radar was last calibrated. The correct answer is "right before I nabbed you". If that is not his answer, 9 times out of 10 the ticket was thrown out.
It could be that a laser was used, in which case you can forget the calibration argument. You would, in my opinion, be better off to just pay.Assuming you were able to beat the ticket in court, how well do you think the officer in question would treat you afterward?
i just wanted to say that some courts don't care if you were right or wrong you pay their salary so they will go with what the cop said so the get MONEY
I don't know about anywhere else but around here your better off paying $5000 for a lawyer than paying that ticket. 30 over will be almost a grand anyway, automatic lic suspension for I think it's 6 months, sr 22 insurance filing, another couple hundred for the defensive driving school, and at the discretion of the court include some jail time (if the prosecutor decides to file and press reckless driving too) oh and they can take your vehicle registration too.
Edit or wait, I see your in canada, so thats probably 30 KPH over, thats like what 15mph? not quit so bad, but I would stil find out EXACTLY what it's going to cost to pay it, and if you can PROVE he is intentionally going after kids you can get him forced off of it, but you better be ready to PROVE it beyond a doubt or your in even worse trouble.
That's the thing. Of course you know the cops are targetting kids. Can you prove it? Nope. Get enough kids together in front of a judge, the judge will just say smarten up or something.
I never had problems with cops, but my buddy did. He drove a heat score though, a beater Honda with tinted windows and a bassing stereo. After that was a lowered 5.0 with a bassing stereo. Not till he got a full size Blazer did the cops leave him alone.

Really??? dang, we need laws like that around here. Seems like every month around here you hear of kids going 100+ (in most areas around here the speed limit is 55, with a few major freeways at 65) and all they get is a slap on the wrist ticket.
I would prolly plead not guilty, show up in court, and let the judge hear your story. Stick to your guns, admit to 10 over and plead with the judge that there is no way u were going that fast. Remember, judges can smell manure a mile away, don't lie, be sincere and professional.
The last time I got popped for speeding, I did exactly that. although I met the officer in the courtroom lobby before going to the judge. the officer agreed to drop the speeding charge and gave me a lesser fine. He changed it to a miscellaneous "other" category. I saved 50 bucks, but had to pay 106 dollars. The best part..no points on my record.
Of course, I am older and very suave, polite as well.
You go to court with your ducks in a row, and say "yes sir", "no sir", they may have mercy, and give u a break.
Of course there is the matter of missing out on a days pay if u are working.
All traffic officers always have the youngins on their radar..it is part of your continuing drivers education.."The school of hard knocks" is the best way to keep youngins from driving like idiots, sometimes one ticket is enuf..others may need to be pulled over a few times, but most people get the message.
well id document everything, photographs and even see if you can show video of this cop hiding to get speeders see if you can find evidence of the cop sitting where he was.. skid marks behind the billboard or something to prove a cop was there anything to give reasonable doubt... witnesses etc and hire a lawyer if all else is unable to be done
