i am just looking to find out if there is anything else i can do to make sure my truck is running optimal...
89 i6 with 170,000. 5spd, 2wd
i have, replaced the fuel filter, air filter, about to get an oil change and use the engine restorer. i am cleaned the iac, i have used sea foam. the plug, wires and distrubutor are only 5000 miles old. power steering and brake fluid hold their levels.
tranny flush, rear axle oil change, grease all ur joints, i am wondering have u ever used the engine restorer before and if so how well does it work do u mean CIL Cylinder repair?
i have never, and its the Restore "engine restorer"
grease joints - ok
rear end flush - def. planned on doing that
gear on in the trans - was told to leave it alone, becasue if there is a problem hiding behind the old fluid, changing it will only cause the problem to come out...
get a second opinion on the trans flush, nothing better then knowing a great mechanic
about engine additives, most of em are crap if ur ride really needs an additive shouldnt it already be in the oil in the first place? well i dunno, i just tryed 1 called Zmax highly advertised and carrol shelby puts his name on it, althow it cost's 40$!! seemsd to help a lil
The biggest thing you can do is lose the stock muffler it is a big cork in the system. I looked in mine. The piping is 2.25" on either side of the muffler. Inside the muffler the gasses pass through three tubes. First one is about 2" ID, not too bad, but then there is one that is down to 1.75" ID or 33% restriction. My Flowtech Raptor is 2.25" ID all the way through and sounds a lot better. With the Raptor in the stock piping I felt more power and a more responsive and fun truck to drive. Did get a resonance, so I switched to a pipe going out in front of the rear tire and the resonance is gone. Nice throaty sound but not overly loud. Can hear it esp if step on it.
Look down the tube of the Cherry Bomb. I think the ID decreases slightly. Flowtech makes a similar muffler.
I suspect that Restore is just snake oil. The stated purpose on the can of restore, IIRC, is to repair the cylinder walls. Even if a liquid could do that, it would not be needed in your case, unless you have bad compression. You can do a compression test, but if it runs well and has good power, really don't have to.
