I just bought a new Cifford four barrel intake manifold at the Pamona Antique auto show, and it was only $125. Is this a good deal? It is brand new, no signs of wear.
my truck is a 75, and mostly stock except for a high flow cat and a cherry bomb glass pack. The cam might be a little larger then stock, but I am not sure of what was put in when the engine was rebuilt.
my question is, is what is the fastest anyone has gotten their 300 to go? mine shakes too much at 90 going down hill, about 85 on flat ground. Also, at 3500 rpm my truck sounds like it is going to die in first and second (three speed)
will this change with the headers and intake?
Ultimately the top end of a vehicle depends on the gearing and horse power. If you had a five speed with a 2.73 rear, for example you may end up with a top end well over 100 mph.
I had my '95 up to 110, which I beleive is when the fuel cutoff occurs. I know this because the engine actually SHUT OFF. I was westbound on I-90, coming down the Cascade mountains on a looooong straightaway, downhill with-get this-sammy davis jr's "candyman" on the radio! What a terrible song to top out my truck to! haha oh well.
I've never pushed my 1988 past 90mph, but I towed 2 jet skis to Biloxi for the 4th of July and ran 80 and 85 mph, the whole way, using 4th gear. RPMS as I recall were around 33-3500. It sucked up some serious gas (10-12 miles per gallon) but started running smoother after a few hundred miles. It smoothed out and runs like a Cadillac now! It was the 1st high speed run in a LONG time (I'm a 65 mph driver normally) and I think it runs smoother now. For an 88 that is high speed! They're comfortable trucks.
My 82 will hold 3000 rpm(~98 mph) at half throttle.... Mind you, the 300 is far from stock, and, I do have 2.75 gears... It had more to go, but, I didn't feel like really opening it up...

5th gear at 110mph when the fuel shut off kicked in...I'm sure it was realy going a little bit faster since i have larger then stock tires so the ECM would think I'm actualy not going as fast.
How long did it take to get to 110? My 90 struggles to get to 85, but is one of the fastest EFI 4.9's I know of in teh quarter mile. It has the 5 speed and 3.08 gears.
Also, how do you know you were going 110? The speedo on my 90 and my 95 both stop at 85. Is there an optional speedometer available?
How do you know you're going that fast when the speedo only goes up to 85mph...........mine shuts off at 90.

I've had mine up to about 90 just testing it out, it got there pretty quickly (in the back of the seat) I got scared for my licence and won't do it again for a LOOOOOOOONG time.
mine goes up to 90, but sometimes mine has a bit of trouble reaching over 70 when it shifts in to 3rd. but i have never had it shut off, althought that would be quite scary.

90? Hmm thats not right. had my girlfriend in her 911 next to me so I know how fast I was going
As for how long it took, it took a bit. I was already doin 80 when I started speeding up for real, and I never shifted out of fourth (I was well above 4k on the speedo, so shifting would have made me faster anyway).
My '78 3-speed manual will still do at least 85, even with a one barrel stock 300 (no rebuild) with 217,000 miles. I had the speedo straight down when I first got in in '87 once (on the 'P' of MPH on the 85 MPH speedo) as a teen on the backroads in SW Missouri, I'll never do that again. I'm sure my 0-60 time is not impressive nor the quarter but the truck cruises on the interstate at 65-75 with ease, I have no idea how many RPMs, no tach.
