The most I've have behind me was a little more than 16,000 lbs. That was back when I was completely stock (stock filter housing{before BHAF}, stock exhaust, no chip). The trailer was 3800 lbs and the aircraft tug was 12,500 lbs. Gross was about 24,000 with truck, trailer, tug, and 2 people.
This is the trailer
This is the tug in the trailer getting ready to unload the tug
I don't know if you guys realize it, but Allison trannies are no better than ford's or dodge's.
What GM DOES have, are dealerships with people classy enough to fix problems, instead of saying "you did this" like ford and dodge.
I've driven GM's allison duramax trucks, and they're nice, powerful, and solid feeling.....however...
- When I jump on the rear bumper of the duramax 2500, it's just as squishy as my old 1990 1500 2wd, and you can visibly see the box twist under the stress of 250 LBS.
- I hooked my camper to the DMAX once (2007 4 dr 4x4) and found the truck to have lots of high rpm power, and smooth shifting.
- Much less 4x2 and 4x4 traction than my 2002 4x4 PSD.
- Feels "top heavy" and unstable pulling heavy loads, despite its car like stance.
- Need at least a 3500 DMAX to compete with the f250.
- 2500 is LOADED with small undersized car parts, however a small well engineered part is better than a large beefy looking, poorly designed part (dodge)
- 2500 "snow bank side swipe damage": entire side panels, front to back.
F250 damage, exact same speed etc : cleaned dirt off.
However, all this said, there are many positive points to owning a duramax truck, heres a list.
1. R14 tires are dirt cheap.
2. Direct replacement for the old "new yorker", and "crown vic"
3. Parts are easily interchangeable with an S-10
4. A more roomy "grocery getter" than the cobalt
5. Come on GM, I know you want to.... just make it front wheel drive and get it over with.
Well not to make anyone feel bad but I used to farm and regularly pulled 2 gravity flow wagons loaded with corn, one was 250 bu, other was 230 thats 26.880lbs just for the corn. I did that with my old 95 F150 with a 300I6. didn't own my psd at teh time what I did own was a chev 1 ton with a built 454 and the ford out pulled it.
but with my PSD this is the biggest load I pulled with it, I picked this up for another forum member the trailer weighs 4300lbs empty we aren't real sure about the truck but the pump on the back is a 5 stage cast iron pump if that gives you some idea. estimate is 15k lbs for the truck though.
Don't have pictures of it but I did pull a tractor trailer out of the mud last night about 1:00 in the morning. He pulled off the road and the passenger side of the tractor and trailer just sunk.
i heard a story right when the 6.4 was new, that a ford dealership in alberta hooked and auto carrier on a 6.4 CC, and loaded a brand new dodge cummins, dmax, and another PSD on the trailer and drove around as a promotion or something
Last year I pulled a 1/2 ton chevy and a 1 ton dirtymax in tandem out of a ditch full of snow, if it makes you feel better. They were both buried over there tires in the snow. I never have a camera when I need one damn it.

W T F is this page appearing 10 feet wide, or is it just me?
Because the pictures in 00f250sd's post are too large from another site. Some other picture hosting websites pictures appear too large. if you have a gallery on here they fit the page (see my last post as example of pulled from my fte gallery) and some you can size.
Those pics should probably be converted into links now.
About a year ago i was driving along highway 95 in north central idaho, and I saw a motorhome that was parked on the side of the road with two guys standing in front of it looking bewildered. So I turned around and see if they needed any help. Turns out their fan belt broke and it kept over heating so I offered to pull them to a turn out so they could wait for their "rescue team". It was only like 1 1/2 mile so I wasn't concerned. One of the guys then asked if i could just pull them to their destinatioin that would be about 7 miles with a lot of steep hills but i wasn't in a hurry so i told them that would not be a problem and we hooked up my chain and started to pull made it there in about 30 minutes. The motorhome was around 40 ft. long and probably a 1970's I don't how much it weighed but it was heavy
Not as big as some here, but - 14500 GW 5'er with F250/4X4/5.4 /Torqshift - 2.5 miles up and down 10% grade - twice. Had to work, but did it. Now pull it with F350 V10/4.10.
