has anyone on here ever caught the engine oil on fire in the crank case i did this weekend pulled over let the truck cool down and then i started back on my way then it did it again enging water temp was fine no prob there oil pruser was fine to all i can this is that i spun a crank shaft bareing any one else have any ideas and possible a decnt 390 laying around
Is the fuel pump leaking fuel into the oil? A lot of times when the diaphram fails they start spraying fuel into the crankcase. You should be able to smell it in the oil.
Depending on how bad you may be able to have it posished out, worst case turned.
If you find a 390 engine, I would be interested in the 390 rods. Going to stroke my 360. Have a crank coming allready.

It's hard to heat the oil up to a high enough temp to catch it on fire. If your were burning oil, I do not see it putting it self out, if the oil is that hot. If it was that high your temp gage would have been pegged. I don't see spinning a bearing heating it up the oil high enough. Are you running rich and washing the oil off the cylinders into the crankcase? or Maybe the crankcase ventilation system is not recirculating the vapors into the base of the carb .....
Are you sure it was in the crankcase burning the oil?
well lets put it this way lots of smoke visible from th drives seat (cause i haven't put my hood back on after head gasket and motor mounts) was bellowing from the breather hole and the filler hole out of the valve covers and when pushed in clutch engine stoped let it back out well truck still in gear would restart but the second time it was knocking it sounded like it was coming from the bottom end of the engine
as far as the fuel pump no musty smell from what i could see looked like all new parts with this one and it one of those evil new ones that from what i can tell is not to be rebuilt
How's the oil pressure? A spun bearing most times will drop the pressure due to the extra clearence between the crank and the bearing shell...... A heavy knock like a thump most likely is a main, the lighter rap a rod.
on another note blue68f100 what will be the advantage of strokeing a 360 over the 390?
Nothing, A 390 is a stroked 360, somewhat. So installing 390 crank and rods is a stroker kit for a 360...... A 390 stroked with a 328 crank would be 410's ....
im up here in modesto at the local pnp i noticed a few fords with 360/390's in them. might be worth the while to pull one of these. or do what i did, i went to modesto re-new and they machined a 390 for me, just bored .030over re-did the crank new flat top piston tanked the block with new freeze plugs and cam bearings. and new push rods only cost me less than $1,000.00. all i had to do was put all the pieces together.
