Hey guys. I finally got the whole dash back together after changing out my heater core. 98 Expy. Now my truck wont start. Everything works, but when I turn the key, all lights go out and nothing happens. I looked under the steering column and found my transmission shift cable broken. Do ya'll think this could be why it wont start?
It could very well be due to the shifter cable. It might have moved the shifter lever at the tranny's end to something other than P or N and hence won't crank.
Replacing the shifter cable is very easy. I did that on my old 00 EB a couple of years back. I think the cable cost me less than 100 bucks and the installation took less than an hour. Very straightforward job.
I had the same issue, I got the cable back on but now there is a lot of play in the shifter, I have to wiggle the shifter to get it to go in to drive, reverse. I tried using a cable tie to take up some of the slack but that didn't help. Someone said that there was a very specific way to install the cable but I haven't been able to find anything on here as to what the steps are to install the cable. Thanks
