OK, so I've confused every parts store in my little town, and the forum search was little help in this case. Your guys turn.
I've got a '61 F100 that I put an '82 C6 in. The speedo cable out of the '61 won't work because the transmission end is wrong. The speedo cable out of the '82 won't work because the speedo end is wrong.
Short of having a custom cable made(to the tune of like $60+freight)is there a cable out there that'll fit my truck?
Needs the threaded nut at the top and the adaptor that slides into the trans with the retaining tab on the bottom.
Cool, thanks guys. The local O'reilly's shows to have it in stock(at least on the web), although I hope the pic on the web site is a generic pic 'cause it doesn't look right. Hope they can do better on this than the stupid mounting kit for my steering wheel that I ordered 3 weeks ago and still haven't seen.
I was looking for the same cable for my pu the other day, came up with Napa Part # BK 6151646. The ends look right in the book, but haven't ordered it yet. Gene
My 65 F100 has a New Process four speed and has the transmission connection that is the push in type with the O-ring and the tab and bolt to hole it in. I think that is what you are describing. Of course the length may be a problem, I just don't know for sure on that.

Fits: 1968/71 F350 w/Warner T-18 & New Process 435 4 speeds.
Ok, the cable that O'reilly's carries for a '68 F100 with a C6 won't fit my '82 C6. I looked at the cable and it's pretty much like the original '61 cable with treaded nuts at both ends.
The C6 I've got has the slide-in end with the retaining tab that is held by a little screw at the tranny end.
Michelle, I just looked at the manual trans cable on the O'reilly's site and I do believe you've hit on the solution. Of course, all the stores close to me have the auto trans one in stock, but have to order the manual trans one(which also costs more, of course). I think I'll wait until I get my steering wheel adaptor before I order something else.

Don't buy the cable until you are sure it's long enough.
Note that C5TZ-N is 64.80" long, while C7TZ-AB is 72.42" long.
As original: 1961 F100 3 on da tree: 69.82" long / w/overdrive or A/T: 76.24" long / w/T-98 4 speed 80.38" long.
The '68 cable should work, that's what I used on mine after putting in a C6. It has the push-in style end at the tranny and screw on end at the speedo. Maybe they pulled the wrong part?
The cable they pulled matched the pic of the same part# on the net listing. Maybe they've got thier listing backwards. Site's down right this minute for maintenance, but the criteria I used was '68 F100 V8 Automatic. This returns a pic of the cable with 2 nuts. If you switch the trans to Standard it returns a pic of the cable with the end I need.
I just looked at the Napa site and they list a cable with the ends I need that's 82" long.
I've got the original '61 cable and I'm gonna hook it up to the speedo today and use it to figure out how long a cable I need. Shoulda done that when I swapped it out, but I was more concerned with getting it out of my way at the time.
Heh, at least I'm not trying to come up with a cable that'll fit some off brand transmission.
In my 66, I'm using the cable that was hooked to my NP 435 in my current set up with C6. It has the ends like you need but it could stand to be an inch or two longer.
