would i be able to change the cam on my 93 f-150 even though its EFI. also what else would i need to do with the cam swap (lifters, rocker arms, etc...). and would i be able to get to the cam if i took out the raditor, grill, black thing behind the grill and all that junk? and what power gains would i see from it if i had a K&N, home make cold air kit and a flowmaster delta flow 40 series with 2.5" pipe?
You can swap in any size cam in an EFI you want, however a large one will require some custom coding on the ECU. I'd go with about a 270 deg. cam, like the bluracer from crane. As with any cam swap, lifters must be swaped as well, and again, depending on cam size, new springs too. you should have too many problems swapping it in, just drop the side cover, maybe the intake, and swap em out, making sure to put enough lube on. With the kinds of mods you're talking about, you might see about a 20-30hp increase at the flywheel, meaning about a 10-20hp increase at the rear wheels, a good seat-of-the-pants increase.
sounds good, i was going to go with a blueracer 270, i dont want to loose my low end. also i was going to port my exhaust manifolds a bit to give some more flow, is there a site to show how to do this or has anyone done this on EFI manifolds. and could i port the intake at all and if i do will it raise my peak levels.
20 rear wheels hp is a big help, and the added torque would be a nice addition also. is there any other mods i can do that are reletivitly cheap, perhaps a new MSD 6a ignition box and coil along with new wires n all?
ok, here are a list of HOPEFUL mods i will do to my truck:
1)New exhaust (flowmaster 40 series 2.5" in/out going to a y-pipe and 2.25" and 3-3.5" tips)=$250 est.
2)homemake cold air kit w/ EGR restrictor plate at 1/8"=$50 est
3)MSD 6a ignition box and Ford TFI coil,Ford TFI wiring harness and 8.8mm wires=$300est
4)#19 injectors w/ adjustable fuel pressure regulator (could i pick up a set of used injectorsand would they work and could some tell me a good website with a how-to on this) $250 est
5)Crane blueracer 270* cam (what else do i need with a cam swap)=est$150
6)Port my exhaust manifolds and intake??
does anyone have anything to add or a comment on any of these carefully chosen mods? which of these should i do 1st? i would like to know if these would give me a moderate power gain, about 40RWH and better throtle response and in all i wanna show them ricer boys a thing or two.
4)#19 injectors w/ adjustable fuel pressure regulator (could i pick up a set of used injectorsand would they work and could some tell me a good website with a how-to on this) $250 est
There is a how-to on bigblocksix.com but I can't remember the URL offhand and its currently down (storms knocked out my power and phones )
very nice and detailed website. and it doesnt seem all together that hard, so like i asked before, could i get a set of used #19 injectors or should i buy new? and do i need a fuel pressure guage? also if anyone has done this could u please leave some feedback as to any problems u had during the install and/or and comments.
