Nothing unreaasonable here. If you want the money, submit to the random test. Nobody is forcing them to do anything. Illegal search? Nope. They are given the choice: drug test or no check? If they've nothing to hide, they'll submit- voluntarily. But if you were to have your way and 95% of welfare was gone, there probably wouldn't be any need for testing as the recipients would be the most obviousl needy, in which case, most Americans are more than willing to give.
sorry bricks, but i fall on the test if they want my money side. i have been subject to randoms from the time i entered the military at 18. it isnt right, and i often times feel as though the are treating me like the "criminal". alas this is my life. i feel strongly about the test the welfare recipeint. you see my wife processes welfare, in fact the actual money, not benefits. when i go to the human services office to see my wife i am just appaled at what i see. the recepients drive nice cars, wear more jewelry, and nicer clothes than the employees passing out the aid. it makes me sick to see an escalade pull in, and i work 60 hrs a week and drive an 89 250. ok some of that is by choice, i prefer a savings account, but the point is the same. Bricks, come to my wifes office for a week and you may adapt your stance a little. i agree with the reason for your stance 100 percent, but some people put themselves in a situation where some of the unalienable rights just shouldnt apply. the flipside is when i see a humbled man or woman walking in to the office ashamed, and just needing a little help to get back on there feet, i would give them the help myself. just my .02 Dan
drug tests have evolved into another front on the war on drugs. as i said, if smoking dope was so bad, then why the concern for the test when no one noticed i smoked it before hand? if i smoked some dope 3 weeks before and then got caught positive, obviously my conduct at work did not raise any suspicion enough to cause concern.

And thats key to my argument here. No suspicion = no reasonable cause .
Saying "if you recieve welfare, you will test" is the same as saying "we think you are on drugs if you apply for welfare" Simply applying for welfare is not reasonable cause to search.
Here at work(PPG), we take a Hair Follical Test. I always get a random test,BUT!!! They pay me to take it! The Nurse just takes 7 clips off the top, And with a Flattop haircut,,, it sure sticks out when they do it!
But also, as a former truckdriver(OTR 22yrs.) I had no problems with a random test at a CERTIFIED CLINIC for a pee test, always clean. Yea I know,,, I'm a goddy 2 shoe boring fella.

I don't think it has anything to do with reasonable cause or assuming they are on drugs, it has to do with meeting a qualification standard. And that standard is to be drug free. The only way to verify that standard is being met is to test. Any time you receive aid (or a paycheck) from someone, there are bound to be conditions.
I wouldn't know where to look for the statistics, but I'm sure they're out there that those who even "just smoke a little pot" ON AVERAGE perform worse at their jobs than those of us who stay clean, nevermind the crackheads and meth junkies.
