Whittey,
I forgot to ask earlier, what intake/header or manifold combo are you running? I have a clifford with a water heated base plate and dynomax headers. Had to make a step washer to get it to seal right royal pain in the but. I am glad for GearWrenches though for those bolts behind the header tubes!!
Yah, I wasn't too happy with SSAutochrome. I mean, by sending the valve cover back twice, I would have paid for another valve cover!
As for intake/header combo, i've got an Offy DP and a Hooker Supercomp un-coated. If I were to buy them new, I probably would have gone with the C-series, but I got the DP and header used for $300.
On the hooker, the initial bend on the #1 primary is tight, so you've got to put that bolt in first (while the header is about 3/8" from the head) and screw it in that way, otherwise the bolt is too long and you won't be able to fit it in. Otherwise all is good.
On mine (i'm not sure about stock, but it looks stock) there are metal tabs welded onto the flanges. I thought I had a pic, but it looks like I don't. I'll see if I can't get one tonight or this weekend.
Oh that is cool...how does your header flange line up with your manifold flange? Did you have the same prob I did /w them being two different thickness'. I know about that tight fit bolt behing #1 the tube is right over it on mine I, found it easier to remover the alternator and bracket. I reached in back of it with a gearwrench to torque it down. How are the Super comp headers I haven't even seen them yet.
The flanges looked to be the same thickness, but I won't know till I fire her up. She's been sitting because i've been converting TFI-IV to DII distributor with all aftermarket management (no DII box, just dizzy) and its being a PITA. I don't have a DII harness so I can't go by that and my head spins whenever I look at the wiring diagrams in the back of chiltons. One of these days perhaps....
When I put my header on, I didn't have the alternator bracket on. There is only about 1/16" clearance so i'm hoping the header doesn't flex/expand too much till I can get something in there to clearance it.
Hey I did the same conversion in my truck had to, it wasn't to bad. Mine runs awesome with it!!! Nice thing about it too, I relized this when hooking up my MSD ignition in my Mustang is that, the 6A Box will connect directly to the DII distrubutor, they actually sell the harness for the Magnetic pickup. They only don't use the ground, the 6A box grounds by itself, unlike the DII box which uses the black wire off the distributor as ground. If you need a hand with any tips or schematics on the conversion let me know. To receive power to the box you can use the exsisting harness out of the firewall it will plug directly into your box, also for the positive side of the coil you can use the existing wire. You have three going to the distributor I wanna say (Purple and Green, Black(ground)) then you have your forth wire going to the negative side of the ciol. I believe it is Orange? Oh it is the White and red wire connector coming out of the fire wall near the Master cylinder that will go into your DII box. Hope this helps you out!! If you need pics I can help u there lol!!!
With your lokar throttle cable, were you able to use the stock pedal?
Later
