ok since the truck was not running the battery lost some power.. nway i got the truck running again ..and the alternator charged the battery..
okthe question:
its starts very good when its cold... but when its hot y only get this loud CLICKING noise from the starter. it wont start.. i have to wait 2 ours Minimum and it would start again. its the 3rd starter the 1st didnt do it.. the 2nd one broke ( a bolt from a magnet got loose ) and only this one the 3rd one does this the 2nd one when its realy realy hot its turns very slowly but gets the job done ALWAYS but not this one :S .normaly the usual problem with these trucks is the ground but the ground has been cleaned up and if the ground is dirty it would turn very slowly but not this starter it only does a LOUD clicking noise when its hot.. my dad says no its the battery bla bla it has been awhile since the truck ran bla bla and you have to charge it.. i say its the starter becuase if its the battery it would turn slowly but not do a LOUD clicking noise coming from the starter.. so any ideas?
Couple things to consider. first off try checking the battery voltage when you try to start it hot. also keep your meter on it and see what it does when you try to crank it. Just because a battery shows good voltage at rest does not mean it isn't falling on it's face under a load. You also said you checked the grounds, did you check the entire cable? Mine wore the negative cable down to three strands at the frame connector. Showed great continuity but would not carry current which made the truck act like it had a bad battery. Just cheap stuff to think about before you pay for another starter.
With this type starter and LOUD clicking from the starter with a history of the broken bolt I would say you have an engine problem.
These type starters just do not make clicking sounds unless the engine is locked up.
If the clicking is coming from the solenoid on the fender then I would say bad battery cable.
I would say that your starter is going south. Could be the battery, but I'd go with the starter. Had a car that did the same thing when I was a kid. Jump it and it was fine, just took too much to crank it when it was hot.
It could be the starter........when you installed them were there any shims you left out?
If timing is off......a hot engine will crank slow.......almost like it isn't going to.......then catch and start......if the starter and all connections are good.
Haynes says to check your emissions decal under the hood for your timing. 14 BTDC seems off to me......I thought they were around 10.
the starters are from Napa.. the 2nd one was very good.. lasted for like 7 years the 3rd one is only a few montsh old 3 to 5 max
yeah my timing is at 14 BTDC for a little extra performance.. but im going to put it back stock at 10 BTDC*
i dont know if its a coincidince but since i changed my timing at 14 BTDC everything went bad
- the brand new powermaster 100 MP alt
- Fuel pump primes to much
im going to get it back at 10 and see what happens.. and dubbel chek the ground wires.. thanks

Just a simple thing I use when problems like this starts. I leave the headlights on when I try to start. If the lights shines good when trying to start, but starter motor is running slow or just clicking, then I have a indication that the batteries are good and I have a problem whith the starter motor/circuit.
