Wanted to drop and line and say hi. I just bought a 1959 f250 4x4 with the 292. The truck is in really great shape for the age with only minor rust inside the bed. From what I have learned on this site so far, I understand that this is the first year of the production 4x4's from Ford. Any other info anyone wants to share would be great also.
One question I have is on the ID plate in the glove box Ive read about on here. I cant seem to find it on this truck, there is nothing on the inside of the glove box door when I open it and the box itself inside is made of cardboard not metal. Do I need to remove the box to see the ID plate or is it supposed to be on the door and is just missing?
Truck runs great, has some stopping issues that need to sorted through. It tends to lock up a tire under moderate braking.
Thanks for the great contributors to the forum and I look forward to learning from each of you along the way. Ill post up some pics next week if yall interested.
Welcome to the board!! It sounds like a great truck. I've always had a soft spot for the "orphan" years truck (I drove a 60 F-100 custom cab in high school). The 4x4's are really cool, Man do they look tough!
When you get settled in try and take the time to set up a gallery so we can see some pics of your toy (we love pics around here).
It sounds as if you might have either a leaking wheel cylinder or a leaking axle seal. Either one can cause the brakes to lock up a bit (with excessive leaking the braking starts going away completely). Easy enough to check, pull the wheels and drums and see whats going on in there.
welcome aboard. Your truck is one I've always wanted. They look the best in stock form, IMO. Anyhow, that 292 is a good engine to get that thing rollin' Good luck.
