I bought an 82 F150 with the glove box door removed. I have the door, but there is no lock mechanism attached, just a square hole. I planned to get a lock from the dealer, but don’t know if I’m missing anything at the glove box. Can someone tell me if there should be a strike plate or a lock catch of some description or does the lock on the door secure to the underside of the dash when the door closes??
Thanks SG
the glove Box has a catch at the Top center which holds the door closed and the Lock is found inside latches center. To get a better Idea try going to a wrecking yard near you with 80-86yr models and get the pieces much cheaper and you'll know what you might be missing

There are also a bunch of "non-locking" ones to be found in the junkyards. A locking glove box was an option. Either latch assembly will work just fine and they install identically.
There should be a "catch" on the dash itself, held on by two screws, at the top center of the glovebox opening.
