Thanks for the info Bill. Kinda figured I had a low gear ratio, the truck came with P215-75R15 tires now I have LT235-75R15 on it. I'm thinking of going 3.08 . Maybe I should kick it up a notch or so and go 3.42 or 3.73.
WDM-C is listed in the 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog under the Rear Axle and Differential Carrier ID Chart ~ Section 40, page 18. Once the code is found, the rear axle parts list number is shown. There are lots of parts lists!
The chart lists all the axle codes used during the 1980's on F Series, Bronco's, Econolines, Rangers, Bronco II's and Aerostars. Besides the W codes, there are the V & S codes (samples: V190-B, S307-B), Dana 7 digit codes (sample: 603943-3) and the Ford codes like: E1TA-AA, E7UA-AA, etc.
There's another chart just like this one in Section 30 for 4WD front axle codes.
All the Ford truck parts catalogs from 1957/ have these ID charts.
The 1980/89 catalog I'm using is the exact same one the dealers use.
