i have a 74F100 W\ A 240. Would like to go to a 300 but arent they the same block with diff stroke and can i take the bottom out of 300 and get 300 out of my 240? also would like recom. on carb size on offy intake.
I'll be interested in seeing what the engine builders on this site say about this question. I've heard that the 240 heads interchange on the 300, so one may assume the block is the same, just bored out to a 300.
I'm in the process of a rebuild project. Long story short, what I thought was a 300 ended up being a 240. You're right on...the 300 is a "stoked" 240. Both share the same block, but not the same crank, rods, not sure on the pistons. I've been considering sticking with the 240 head and putting in bigger valves, port work,...etc. But...the 240 head will yield a lot higher compression ratio than a 300 head would. In my case, I'm thinking of going with deep dished 351W pistons and the 240 head...won't know for sure untill I get the head CC'd.
thats what i thought from the repair books i have and based on part nos from auto parts stores for many parts. but i wanted second opinion before commiting to project as this is to be driven during build.
