Are all 1953-1956 f100 grilles interchangeable, because ive been hindering my progress in looking for a truck, because i dont like the 54 grille as much as the other three, and so i havent been looking at them, but if its an easy fix, why not
Welcome to FTE! I'll add a bit to what has already been offered.
A '53 grill should bolt right into a '54, but the gravel pan will have holes where the fangs hung down. These can be patched.
A '55 grill will bolt in, but you will have to change the gravel pan and the park light asssemblies.
A '56 grill will fit, but you have to change the air deflectors, the the gravel pan and the park light assemblies.
I believe the center brace is unique for all four years, but not positive on that one. The 53-55 were originally 6 volt and the 56 was 12 volt so some bulb changes may be in order. The headlight trim rings interchange from 53-55 but 56 are different. Take a look at Earl's World at the following link for some line drawings. There are differences in the hood side emblems if you want the emblems to match the grill also. http://www.clubfte.com/users/earl/Re...%20Information
What is not to love about this grill?(A.H. Stauffer collection) There are many '54s masquerading as '53s and '55s
Hey Merten, Thanks for the nice plug and pic of my truck! I too prefer the '54 grille, but of course if I had another year I would like that grille. The '54 grille is more 3-D. you can see it from the side view of the truck.
I am a history teacher and I like trucks to stay like the year they really are, you know for historical purposes.
If you buy a '54 and put another grille on it I am sure you will find buyers of the '54 grille.
I have a 55 grill in my truck that is good enough to chrome and I would trade it for 54 grill that is good enough to chrome. I am talking about a very straight grill for a very straight grill. I love those 54 grills, when you chrome one there is more shiney.
