I said that, until I realized I can remove my starter in my Cougar without touching the headers.. that, the weight savings, and how quickly it starts, I have no regrets at all.
[QUOTE=garypettengill]OK, time for me to chime in. Sanderson Headers in California makes a set of shorty headers which will fit perfectly and look great. Somebody else said it, "you get what you pay for". Check my galley under "Headers 101". I bought a set 2 1/2 years ago and they still look like they did the day I installed them. Oh, both sides intalled from the top with the bubble wrap still on them to protect them. They have 3/8" flanges to prevent warping and ceramic coating. I talked real nice with the lady and she included the "adapter"(a thick copper gasket to use with 2V heads), and the angled collector to help direct the exhaust pipe away from everything. I have no more heat issues then with the stock exhaust and the "Y" pipe although I did wrap my starter just to be safe. I evently had my "Y" pipe ceramic coated, looks better and helps with heat around the oil pan. Your my hero, I've been wanting new headers for a long time. I didn't want the chassis exits that I currently have due to the poor location of the drivers side collector. And I can't seem to talk myself into fenderwell exits. I've heard of the Sanderson's before but never could find a straight answer or good pics on how they fit. Now I know! Just have to deciede if I want to fork out the extra dough for the ceramic coating.
BTW do you recall what the total bill was for the headers, collectors, and adaptors for the 2v heads?
I can take my starter out if need be, and I have headers.
Only thing was the starter had to be removed to get the headers in, in the first place(because of the lack of room), and then I put it in after. It is a little tight, but not bad at all.

mini starter aside,(which is a good, yet pricy idea)
are there any headers that will allow acces to the starter?
do any of you guys have headers and are able to remove the starter without taking off the headers?
help is much apreciated
thanks
My hedman (i said they were hookers earlier mistakingly) fender exit headers are long tube, and i can easily get to the starter with them. If you dont have a body lift you'll have to trim the inner fender some to get them to fit. They're also kind of low quality, and yes they'll rust up pretty fast, which doesnt matter to me in the least bit as it's an off-road racer anyways.
was gonna go with hedman but the only ones they have that fit with dana 60 front are fender exit. I want chasis.
that is if i understand the concept corectly. I want to put glasspacks on and run the pipes out back. I think i can only do that with chasis exit........correct?
