Just picked up the Schefenacker mirrors, model 2120. I cannot see how to
activate/connect the heated mirror function. My truck did not come with the
heated window option. Very confused looking at the wiring diagram. I have a few relays that I can use but not sure where to make the cut to hook it all up anupplyd where to tap into the 12V s. Any assistance greatly appreciated.
Thanks, I had a look at it. Some info but not what I am looking for. I think that the heater wiring is present in the door connectors all of the way to the fuse box. If that is the case then I should be able to add the power to that wire without cutting any wires. It would also make it much easier to add the fuse and relay. If possible, I would like to use the Ford relay and add an exterior trigger wire.
I did note some major problems with the Ford instructions, copyrighted 2005.
1) The speaker grill must be removed before you can remove the door handle controls.
2) The process for the marker lights wire, as documented, cannot work on the some 2006 models. The door wire loom connector is
not a hollow boot. It is a pin connection and you cannot run any of the wires through it. It looks like you have to drill a hole in the door frame to get a wire into the cab OR find a feed within the door harness that provides
power when the lights are on. (I will look into this when I get the time) I just ran the wires over the rubber door seal and added some peal and stick insultation onto the door for now. Will spend more time on this when the warm weather arrives again.
Now for the the heating function.
My truck did not come with heated mirrors or the electronics for it. What I did find was that the mirror harness was wired for heat and that is carried back to the main harness. I put a line tap on the DG-VT wire coming
from connector C270J, pin number 1, above the fuse panel. There is no circuity for pin 1 on the PCB. To test out that all of the mirrors would heat, I put a 12V feed into the tap that I added. This confirmed that the mirrors would heat. I need to add a fuse, relay and some type of lighted switch.
Was thinking of getting an upgraded AC control panel ( switch ) that has the defrost switch but I do not know enough about how the defrost switch works and what kind of connectors and pinouts it uses.
How do I find the correct plug to add the power to and then which connecter in the plug did you put the power to? I do not want to pull both of the door panels back off cut a wire and then find a hot wire in the door to make the mirrors hot. I am disappointed that these instructions were not more clear when the mirrors were shipped and I told Schefenacher this but I haven't gotten a response.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. It is cold here too and I plow with this truck so I rely heavily on my mirrors.
Need more info on your truck. If you have power mirrors on atleast a 2006 model, then all of the wiring is there accept for the running lights. It is just a matter of plugging them into the door recepticle. The wiring is all there, from the door to the power panel on the passenger side BUT the will not be any supporting circuitry unless you have atleast a KR.
I found a key on/run fuse, added a mini "add a fuse" adapter then jumped that output to the wire for the heated mirrors.
I have a 2006 SCrew. I already have the mirrors installed for several months. They are the models with the running lights and turn signals. I did not find out until after everything was buttoned up and the weather got cold that the heat was not working. That is when I contacted Schefenacher and they told me about the wiring and how I would have to take everything apart and gave me some very poor instructions. I then looked at the wiring color codes for 06 F150's and I see that NO 06 F150 has a wire running to the door that would heat their mirrors and they should have known that.
Ok I'm done venting. We ran a wire to the running lights when we installed but I still have no heat to the mirrors. everything else works fine. The power mirrors, signals, etc. So I just want to figure out how to get the mirrors to heat up.
See one of my previous posts. I can get the wire color and post it later. Do your directional signals work? Did you have power mirrors on your truck?
My truck came with power mirrors and I just plugged in the new mirrors and jumped the heater wire.
I was referring to your prior post where you were talking about hooking a wire into a plug above the fuse box. The way I read it was that you put 12 volts into where there was no wire and got power to heat both mirrors without running another wire. Maybe I misunderstood. I am trying to avoid removing door panels and running another wire. As stated in one of my other posts everything works except for the heat.
My truck was fully wired for heated mirrors -- from the door to the power panel, connector C270J, pin number 1, above the fuse panel. I believe the wire color was dark green/ violet ( purple ). Just after the connector for pin 1 I added a female connector for the power pickup from one of the fuses.
I spent a lot of time on this. I tested the mirrors before I put every thing back together. They are currently wired to be on all of the time that the truck is running. Manufacturer said that they were designed to be on all of the time. Come the warm weather I will be adding a lighted switch. I do not have any pictures and the weather is cold and messy now. Will try to get some if the weather warms up and gets sunny.
