clear coat removal

The clear coat is peeling off all over the truck and looks terrible. I just bought it cheap and am assuming the P.O. used some sort of chemical wax to shine it up. The base coat is solid and there is no rust on it anywhere (yet). I can't paint till spring and was wondering if there is a chemical which will remove the remainder of the clear. I am just afraid that if I start sanding I may sand through the paint it'll rust before I can paint.

Once the clear is gone, you only option is a repaint job. Any chemical cleaner would remove all paint. You do not want to sanding on base, at allm will dull it. You may try use a wax remover and to the surround area, and shoot a coat of clear. It will show, but should buy you time.

Thanks for the reply Blue... It is the answer I expected but with high temp in the 50'sf here and no heat in my shop I'll have to wait and do it all next spring.
