Clear coat

Hey you body and paint guys..and girls...Is there any way to sand down and remove the clear coat on a 1997 f-350 ? My clear coat is peeling and bubbling off my truck...on the blue only and on one side only. I have heard people saying before that they have removed the clear coat and saved the paint... Is this possible? Thanks

Well, yes you can sand & remove the CC but, the base coat paint is not going to last very long because it is just a coverage coat...very thin by comparison.

Another solution is to sand it all bare and let a body shop do the painting.

Simple answer is NO. Clear is very hard and requires fairly aggressive sanding to remove, basecoat is non-catalyzed and very thin which means it will disappear without much work at all. There is no easy fix, the clearcoat should be completely removed and whatever refinishing is needed after that should be done...it will at least require a sealer, basecoat, and clearcoat.
