okay, so i ripped the muffler off of my 97 f-150 xlt ext cab. 5.4
I'm leaving the cats on but i want to run dual exhaust and bring each one out the side in front of the rear tires.
question - for those of you that have done a custom exhaust, did you use mil eliminators to take out the o2 sensors after the cats? they just seem to be in the most unusual places to make this an easy job.
The one goes right into the Y piece where the two pipes become one on the drivers side comes in after the pipe turns to head to the passenger side.
Well eliminating them is illegal(those O2 simulators are for off road use only). But I have seen them used. It would be in your best interest to relocate the sensors, but it's really up to you.
i was going to do my ehaust like the way you want to but the gas tank was in the way and it would have been alot of tube bending. have you really looked under you truck to see if there would be enough room? i changed my mind at lou's shop after seeing under it and talking to the pros at lou's (north reading the best)

no, i guess i haven't really paid much attention to the drivers side, been mainly tinkering around over on the passenger side.
its alittle snug and i didnt feel to comfortable runnin the pipes that close to the tank not to mention that it would hang low or cost a shi@ load more cash to bend it aroung the tank. how about the lightning style? i went with the pipes out the back but then exiting out the sides of the truck . pm and ill send you some pics. peace 02crew
So you want to do true duals from the manifold back? I would buy two high-flow cats (Magnaflow), and take it to an exhaust shop and tell them what you want. They will put the cats on and weld on new bungs for your stock O2 sensors.
yeah thats the plan, but trying to go cheapo for the moment. Spent to much money latley and the law had to be laid.
I can't spend no more money til after x-mas, because i think i'm already getting the add a leaf, torsion keys, bull bar and headlights for christmas.
I think she just told me i couldn't spend anymore money because she doesn't want me to buy anything that she already plans on buying me for x-mas. Haha
If you can't spend any money, Then go to a muffler shop and see if they will give you a short piece of pipe (2-3 feet long) so you can clamp it onto the origional pipe so it will at least exit past the cab.

Yeah I did that already on the passenger side, but I was just thinking about hacking the drivers side off before the two pipes become one, and bringing it out the drivers side real quick this weekend.
I'll probably just wait until I can redo the whole system.
No no no, i'm getting you all confused. I already cut it right at the muffler and brought it out the passenger side right before the tire. I ws thinking about cutting them apart this weekend and bringing the drivers side out on the drivers side, so it WILL be dual.
thats what 02crew was saying.... i didn't even look at it today, but where i'm thinkin about bringing it out isnt that far back I didn't think.
i need to take more pics of my truck, form EVERY direction, that way when i'm thinking about this kind of stuff at work, and my truck is 50 miles away, i'll know right away what i'm getting myself into.
