Exclamation Transfer case problems

I was having problems with my 4wd low, grinding and not going into 4wd Low completely. Usually the first time you would try to put it in 4wd low in would grind when you would try to shift to drive, the second time you pulled it into low it would go right in. But when it would would go in it seemed like only the front wheels were pulling for about 10ft then the rear would snap in. Well after the problems, I decided to change the transfer case fluid, emptied the old stuff out, it was black and smelled burnt. I put new fluid in, now 4 low won't go in at all, just grinds when you try, but 2hi, and 4hi work just as good as before. It goes into the shop today, I had to get some minor things fixed, so I told them to fix the transfer case while they are at it. Atleast when I get in back everything will be working again. Just thought I would say something in case somebody had any ideas on what the problem is.

Sounds similar to a problem Kwik had with his transfer case. If I remember correctly one of the shift forks inside the case failed. He had to do a complete rebuild. Hope you get back on the road soon!

It's at the shop now. I was wondering is there anyway to possibly regear the low gear, so I could get one with a lower ratio=more torque, or should I just put factory ones back in?
