I´m in the process of looking for a good crate engine built from the 460.
I don´t have an 460 so a stroker kit would not be the thing for my at the moment.
I´ve been looking at www.barnetthighperformance.com and was wondering if anyone has ever bought anything from this company and could give me his good/bad report
Any pointers on other company´s that carry complete stroker motors 525+ cid is greatly appreciated
Oh yeah if anyone is wondering I plan on putting this in a 2002-2005 explorer
one thing i can tell you is dont buy the 615hp 514 from Ford Racing! My dad paid 7 grand for this motor, ran two passes down the track (just testing not even red lining) and it siezed a couple bearings. He called ford told them he did everything as was instructed, and also he found a loose nut in the oil pan that went nowhere! Of course Ford Racing said it was his fault that he used the wrong oil pan (even though he used the same pan that was shipped with the motor and there were no instructions saying not to use that pan)! anyway hes out 7 grand and running his backup 460 (which buy the way hes running the same exact oil pan on and has made hundreds of redline passes over the past 4 years with no problems whatsoever)
they only talk about the 385 series engine and stuff. lots of good guys on that forum and some very reputable engine builders that can probably get you hooked up with what you want and answer any questions or concerns you have.
Wow, I had no idea FRPP had trouble engines... Someone at fordmuscle.com bought one, broke it on first pass, but FR replaced it... Then they got a good one.
not trying to hijack this thread....but go to general automotive discussion forum, and look at the thread i started called : Stay Away From Ford Racing. you can see pretty much the whole story my dad has been going through....thanks and good luck with the stroker project!
Thanks everyone for your advise on companies and websites. I´m really looking for a low rpm torque bull that will give a really good kick at wot. I got back a spec sheet from Barnett´s and didn´t really like what they are going fore. Although there hp is quite awesome I´m not comfortable with a solid roller cam and a 11:1 comp. I´m looking for powerband from about 1000-1500 up to about 5500-6500 and peak torque in about 2000-3500 rpm.
How does this sound and what would you guess I could get in tq and hp with approx. 550cid
Dozens of boat builders bought 460 crate engines in the 70's/80's. They came with 4V Holley carbs and all the trimmings. The Ford list price then was $1800.00, wholesale was $1400.00. Look around, you might find one. They also bought 427's, Y blocks, you name it. I scored a couple of crate 427's several years ago from a boat yard auction. The auctioneer said he thought they were used...they weren't. $300.00 each.

ND if I wasn´t located in Iceland I would most likely bee a regular visitor in boat/car and any other yard that has anything to do with engines I really like those prices your talking about to bad they have gone up times 10
has anyone looked at the roush crate engine? if i were going to build a huge monster like that id change some things like...
1.73:1 rockers not 1.7:1
11:1 compression not 10.25:1
it looks like it has SCJ heads and an ebrock intake...id have the entire port matched kaase top end package
it would have a 1250 dommy not a 1000 just to be sure it has enough lungs.
