Mileage would vary with the carb selected, camshaft and the gears along with your driving style but my best guess would be less than 7-8 on a good day.
Carb for a motor say bigger than 500 would have to be in the range of 950cfm or larger. The 385 motors love big carbs with free flowing heads and gears. Personnally, I would run a 8896 Dominator (1050cfm) with an automatic and maybe the 9375 (1050cfm) with a stick, possibly the 9377 (1150cfm). For the WOW factor with the 2x4 intake would select a pair of 450's or larger.

Also, I don't have the truck yet, but what gears would you recomend to use to get ok gas miledge and good performance, I know I'm not gonna get good mpg with a 557 but I just don't wanna get anything under 7 mpg.
The truck is a 1985 F-150 with a 300 I6 and a 4 speed.

Probably 3.50-3.70's....the old 557 would be a torque monster any way.....and not a high winding motor....maybe a mild roller for torque....

Which kit did you plan on using for the 557? SCAT, Eagle, Probe? Is a stud girdle for a stock block good insurance? What heads will you be running? Would DOVE heads ported to CJ spec work?Would a Demon carb give better street manners than a dominator? What size exhaust would be best?
I really hate this, the truck works great then I read about strokers and more just seems better! Sorry for all the questions.

I will be using the Scat crank and rods. Good forged pistons and moly rings. Probably shoot for 9.75 compression. For the bottom end I’m just planning on using ARP studs. No girdle. I believe they do nothing to improve the strength of the bottom end. Bad engineering. For heads I plan on the smallest aluminum ones I can find. I’m going for torque. I will do the bowl work and unshroud the valves if they need it but no porting. For a carb I will start with a vacume 750 but I have access to a 950 HP. I dislike the Demon carbs as well as the others except for Holley. I have a killer Dominator but don’t have the hood clearance to try it. If it needs a trick carb I will call Patrick James at Pro Systems carbs to figure out a custom fuel curve and booster design for peak mileage and power. He did the dominator on my dragster and it rips.
I’m looking for idle to 4500. Which ever get the most response with the least amount of throttle position is what will stay on. For headers they will be 1.3/4 inch by about 32 inch primaries going into 10” long by 3 ½” collectors and then 3 inch duals all the way out. A crossover at the end of the collectors which will be welded to the pipes. No leaks for me. I will also build the headers out of parts from Stahl. I build all my own headers.

From what I have been told, None. I don't mind if I have to do it though. It shouldn't need much if it does. This one will not be an emergency swap so I can take some time and do it up first class.

Actually you will have to do some clearancing for that 4.5 stroker crank. You should have atleast .060 clearance for the rod bolts as they are swinging around. You may also have to mod the pan rails. I can't remember off the top of my head. But clearancing a block is very simple to do.
