I found a guy willing to trade high 01 super crew 4x4 lariat for my t/a. It's got 83k on it. I drove it and seems to be in good shape. In 4x4 I felt binding but 4 high seemed fine. Is that normal? All my old 70's model 4 wheels never had this issue. It also has a rebuilt salvage title and these are new to me. It seemed a little gutless so I'm guessing it has the 4.6 even thought when I asked he said 5.4. I'm use to driving a ta though so who knows. I don't do any towing so shouldnt be an issue. What else should I look for? Overall it appeared to be in great shape. He also did something to exhaust. I think he said he cut back to cut out to make it louder.
I own a 2001 supercrew with 125000 mile on it now. I have had no major problems with it yet and i drive it prety hard. It is not that good of a mudding tuck as i have had problems after a good day of mudding. The problem were due to water getting in to the engien bay, not due to 4 wheel drive. I have had no problems with 4 lo as you describe. alwyas works great for me. good truck to mefor the past 4 years.
A salvage title usually means that the vehicle has been totaled out by an insurance company. Someone then buys what is left of the vehicle and rebuilds it as close to origional condition as possible, and then retitles it under the same VIN#, which is where the word salvage comes in to play. Once it has been totaled by an insurance company, it cant be sold with a regular title again. This is meant to protect the intrest of us, the comsumer. Be very careful when buying one of these vehicles especially if the seller has a bad reputation. You need to closely inspect every aspect of the frame and body for signs of damage and/or "shoddy" repair. I have seen a few of these vehicles that you could nto tell a difference between it and a brand new one. Buyer beware...Just be very cautious.. Good Luck
p.s. You will need to make sure your insurance company will insure it before buying it...Some will, some will not...
Thanks for mentioning to check insurance you saved me a big mess. My insurance will only give me liability for it. Since it would be under loan in my state its required to have full which would make it illegal.
for additional comment on the 4 x 4, my 2001 has a LS rear end and when you put it in 4 x 4 LO it goes good in a straight line, but try to turn a corner and it acts as you said. trying to get all the tires turning a corner means they all go a different speed. you can feel it bad on hard dirt. not so bad if things are soft.
