The dealer replaced the turbo on my 2004 F350 (manufacture date 11/03) in April 2006. I am not sure what turbo they replaced it with. It lost the whine and perhaps some power. And I notice a strange noise at neutral throttle from time to time(sort of a buzzing sound) . I have the S/N from the current turbo. It is a Garrett number. p/n 1845178C98. Can anyone identify what year turbo this is from this serial number? Should I be concerned if this is a later turbo than the original?

That should read part number instead of serial number. Oops!

That's an international/navistar part #. The later turbo's were modified to help prevent sticking turbo veins.

I felt a power loss when we had our turbo swapped out in our 03 for the "updated" one. I'm not sure if they reflashed the computer with something different or if the new turbo is producing less power or what.
