Talking Ford Reliability Above Average

I was reading on MSNBC web site that Toyota's reliability in quailty has gone down alot and Cunsumer Reports have taken them off their top 10 list and Ford has gone up. The reports says that of 93% Ford owners say that Ford quailty is average or above average. That means that Ford is building better cars and trucks and Toyota is going down even thow they are 2 auto seller in the USA.I find it funny that they are having growing pains as much any other auto maker out there. Toyota still have some on list, but not as high up any more. They say their trucks have drivetrain problems and there cars have transmission problems. I find these good for Ford. I know I open can worms here but it's good to talk about it. I love my Fords!!!!!!!!

Nice to see the primrose colored glasses are finally coming off. I've always felt that Toyota's reputation was over-hyped while Ford's was unnecessarily bashed. Don't get me wrong. I've owned several Toyota's and have always owned a Ford ever since I started driving (27 years ago). IMO, both are comparable and make good vehicles. However, the Toyota's I've owned have had quality issues just like the Ford's. Nothing serious, but neither are perfect. As far as trucks go, Ford all the way!!!!!!

I've always maintained that Toyota didn't build a better vehicle, they build a better customer

As an example, Ford had a problem with the early modular engines. They tended to blow out spark plugs if maintenance procedures were not followed. Ford fixed the engines that came in with warranty claims, but that was it.

Toyota had a problem where the 5.7L V-8 was made with a camshaft that was metallurgically defective and prone to failure. Toyota recalled all of the vehicles with suspect engines and replaced the engine with a new one.

OK, now fast forward to this year. Ford had a problem with the 6.4L PSD. In certain RARE situations the purge cycle of the particulate filter would cause flames out of the exhaust pipes. (I think there were 3 documented cases of this) Ford recalled ALL of the vehicles with the 6.4L engine and changed the programming so it would not happen.

Maybe Ford is finally getting a clue on how to build a better customer?

Fords auto tranny is very strong!! I don't know why people say that it is not. Backe in the late 80's when they first came out with the E4OD, yea they were not the best, but show me one of the big three that had a strong AOD in the late 80's. Between me, my dad, and all of our drivers we have had 5 mid 90's and 8 super duties that have gone well over 200,000 miles on the origional transmissions. I have 230k on mine now and we have two guys that have almost 500k miles!!! We tow very heavy all the time (15k plus). The key is to flush every 50k IMO. It works for us.

Up until 15 months ago my wife (of 14 years) and I were what some people call "DINK's" (Double Income No Kids).... So yeah we spoiled ourselves. Heck right now I have three Fords 05 F350, 05 Expedition and 07 Fusion. I traded my 05 mustang in 15 months ago But what I got instead was a gift from God called Abbie . By the way, I am one of the rare breed, I can't stand alcohol, even when I was a teenager and it was the "cool" thing to do. I like to remember when I scew up, that way I know why I am on a guilt trip. I spent my beer money on toys!

I would not get all warm and fuzzy on that one. They caught it early in a new model on the first year. Had they already built 300K-400K trucks, I would bet ford would have just made it a TSB.
