I traded the ranger off today. I got laid off and needed a cheaper payment, so I leased an 08 fusion. It saved me 100 bucks a month. I will still post and share my ranger experience as I've owned 5 of them. Now is my chance to save up for my dream ranger, an 88 4x4 reg-cab, manual tranny and t-case long bed and V-6. There getting harder to find in good shape, but I'll find me one. I'll either swap out the V-6 for a 4.0 or 5.0. 88 is my favorite year for the ranger. I will miss my 04, I put a lot of money in that truck, I guess too much ha ha. "Well", it's on to a new project.
Yeah they are, but I will get another ranger. I just want an older one this time so I can go hog wild on it and won't have to contend with the OBD II smog crap. I'm use to getting laid off in the winter as I work construction, just not so early. I went in the hole sorta to buy my mustang and if push comes to shove, the mustang satys and the old lady goes ha ha. I really love my stang, so if I have to down size some where I just as soon it not be my GT. I haven't had this much fun with a car in a long long time, these new mustangs are awesome, they look old and run like a scolded dog.
boy have I got a deal for you...I have that truck...175000 miles, rust oh yeah, has lots of it, worn completely out...make me an offer...actually though I'm going to put new ball joints in tonight...that should drive up the price....
new rubber, new intake gaskets, 15-17 mpg, may get more on a road trip, every time ive been out for a really long haul ive had the trailer or its been really hilly and ive had to have it in 4rth alot, best ive ever got was 19. all in all though, i'll probly keep it till the body rots off the frame, cant afford anything else right now, and if i did the wife would be getting a new (to her) van. i could use a slightly bigger tow vehcle, but with $3 a gallon gas, i almost need to go smaller in the motor dept. dad is got his '96 bronco up for sale, i wish i could put my truck in his yard and bring the big boy home but its unbeleaveably bad on fuel, 351, E4OD, 3.55's i put manual hubs on it last winter after his auto's died. this thing gets 14 at best, and rarely at that. with a 30 gallon single tank id need a second job just to feed it. i think its geared too steep, at 55 in o/d its turning around 1,600 rpm seems like thats too low, should be about 2,500 i would think. but here we go again with regearing. this beauty was bought new just to tow a 26' travel trailer (8 mpg with it) and only has around 65,000 miles on it. i dont know what he wants for it, from what i could tell its worth about 6 grand. he paid 30 g for it. i had the hood popped at the time this was took, was doing some brake line replacement, this poor thing has set alot, and every time its needed something needs took care of, weve brazed the oil pan, replaced brake lines, changed rear diff cover and had to change out stuck front brake calipers, all within 60,000 miles. its nice inside though, leather, cold air, power everthing (expecally when you plant youre right foot) one weird thing though, dad has a '94 F250 HD with the same powertrain and he says the truck has more torque, ive not driven one then the other so im not sure of that, the F250 has alot more miles, somewhere around 130k, it came from the penn oil fields, body is rough, rear shackles are about to give way.
If the F-250 seems to have more torque, I'ld say it's in the gears. Those big bronco's were rugged machines. OJ Simpson would more than likely buy it ha ha. Why don't some of you guy's feel sorry for me and buy me an 88 ranger 4x4 ? It needs to be a long bed with manual tranny, t-case and hubs, good body, motor doesn't matter, it will get the 5.0 treatment anyway. Also a 93 4x4 will work in a pinch as long as it has that cool 4x4 or splash grill, it must be manual as well. I'm in to the old school stuff, like manual tranny, t-case and hubs.
the thing is the F250 and the bronco both have the same gearing, 3.55 and the F250 has much heavier axles and bigger tires, not extreme big tires but larger than the 265-15's that the bronco runs. the F250 doesnt have a tach (xl pkg) so i dont know what rpms its turning. i helped dad bring it home from a lot in southern ohio when he got it (ebay) thats about the most i driven it. he's got a snowplow for it but i think the "old" farm truck was a better plow rig, it was a '77 F250 with a 400/C6/4.10's -full time 4wd. 8mpg-no matter what, in 3rd gear by 15 mph what a horse it was
The F-250 still could have different gearing in the tranny it's self as it's for heavy duty application, thats the only thing I can think of, unless the motors just in better shape.
i suppose its possible, seems silly to have such tall gearing in such a big truck, 3.73s almost dont seem right for the tires its got. at least it has limited slip, did that "test" out behind the barn as soon as it got home. (and it was dad not me on the throttle!)
