6637 mod

i got an idea for the 6637 mod i have read yall saying that muffler shops are ripping your heads off on a piece of 4'' pipe bent i went to lowes today and seen a 3'' pvc 45 degree elbow that was 10 dollars but they didn't have a 4'' so i'm gonna go to a electrical supply store tommorow and see if i can't find one i think it will work the pipe is rated to take atleast 90 degrees celisus so i don't think engine heat will melt it i'll try and post some pics if i can find the part

There are a few users who have used PVC tubing rather then a chunk of pipe. Just make sure you get some good constant torque clamps for your intake. Dont want any dirt makin its way into your turbinator. Good luck

when you are looking at pvc pipe make sure that you are getting 4" o.d. pipe and not 4" i.d.. the 6637 filter is 4" inside diameter so the pipe you use MUST be 4" outside diameter in order to fit and seal correctly. if you can find the correct size pipe I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Since you love junkyards and you have the kinks worked out of that intake, you can send it to me, and see if you can one uup yourself and make the next one better.

but...does the exposed filter not suck in alotta heat as opposed to a partial box unit like my k&n, kinda defeating the purpose?

you really think its that big a difference? i am sure someone will fire out that it is, but the temps arent going to play that major of a difference going down the road. and none of the aftermarket "closed boxes" are air tight. hot underhood air will still get in the filter. the ideal thing to do is get a functional cowl induction hood. that will draw cold air across the engine and suck the hot air out over the windshield.

I've been using pvc for years now, I was one of the first (if not the first) to figure out a cheaper intake than a tymar. It's worked fine all these years.

Also if your worried about sucking in hot air, I made an aluminum shield that shields the engine side and the firewall side of the filter, then I left the little air duct piece that sits over the battery to hopefully direct some cold air to the filter. As said above it doesn't hold all the hot air back but I'm sure it keeps temps down.

And buying a cowl hood would be a waste of money I think unless you build an airbox. Most cowls pull air in and hardly let any out. I couldn't see spending huge money on a hood just to attempt to get engine bay temps down. If you wanted to be trick and use the cowl for it's real purpose, build some piping and and airbox, seal the airbox to the hood and pull 100% dense cold air in. If I can find a hood cheap enough I was going to do this. The piping wouldn't consist of too bad of angles and the box is pretty easy to build.
