Edge....Bad

I just bought an F250 4x4, .355 gearing and a five speed, about 3000 miles ago (150,000) total. It came with an Edge tuner and everything else stock. I did add a 3" downpipe. The guy I bought the truck from had been running the Edge in the first setting (tow, about 60 hp). The truck gets about 19 mpg in that setting; however, it makes an annoying vibration if I accellerate without downshifting. I.e. I slow down to 40 and simply push the pedal to the floor to speed back up to 55, it vibrates bad enough to make me downshift or ease the fuel to it slowly from 1100 rpms until about 2200. Once it hits 2200 or so, it smooths out and really takes off.

Does anyone have any idea what the vibration is? It is not u joints as I checked them.

It annoyed me so much I used the Edge to go back to the stock setting. The truck is quieter and much smoother, although I feel the power difference. The vibration is still there, but it is so faint I can live with it.

My next step is to move up to a Wildman or DP chip!

Check your turbo wheel and the turbo shaft play...mine was acting just as yours was...mine had a chipped turbo wheel and some shaft play which would cause a type of studder from the engine it wasnt a harsh u-joint vibration it was a softer engine spudder before the auto would shift down. I have a hypertech tuner I believe it had something to do the the turbo not working up to par therefor it couldnt burn the extra fuel the chip gave it. I put a new SD turbo wheel on it and rebuilt the turbo and put a 1.0 exhaust housing on it. Havent had the problem since.

i'm thinking it's either the downpipe hitting the firewall OR could it be a dual mass flywheel acting up????

Thanks

Thanks for the input guys. I should say that the vibration I described can be felt and seen on the gearshift. You can see it move. Part of it may be that I am expecting the diesel to make enough torque to smoothly bring me up to speed, when I need to downshift anyway.

Although the downpipe does have an awfully close fit, it is not the problem.

If it was the turbo chipped or damaged in some way, why would it smooth out and make power after 2200? And why wouldn't it be just as bad with the stock tuning.

I have to admit it is baffling me.

Jeremy:
I just read your post more closely and it sounds like I really need to check my turbo. Your description of the vibration is close to mine.

Yea Its a very odd problem but inspect the comp wheel for any damage. These things spin over 100,000 rpm so the slightest imbalance only gets worse overtime.
