Well i spoke to a guy yesterday who has F350 SD 4x4 tells me he is getting 33mpg on the highway thats canadian gals I didn't want to call BS but hey maybe should. mine only gets around 18 mpg so overall pretty happy with that.
This is good, keep up the report,,,,I am looking at this program I used HT last time and was pleased, but 12 to 16 is a big jump....suprised to see 12 with a 3.73
Be careful expecting a big jump in mileage at any given point. I've heard the stories about the factory programmed computer changing at some specific point, but nothings happened on mine, and I'm pushing 20,000 miles. With my set up, I didn't expect to get great mileage, but I hoped for a little better than 11-12 empty. There's probably a new chip in my future, when the chips out there get a little time on them.
I bought my truck to pull a load, and it does that better in stock condition than any other diesel truck I've ever owned. Looks good too!
How can the MPG be so bad for this "Modern" truck? Did the engineers bother to test the MPG when testing the feasibility of this engine? This engine should have been killed at the first test if it could not break 15MPG. What will Ford do when fuel hits $4-5/ gallon and once again the are behind the ball as they were in the 70's. The US automakers should have had high milage vehicles out more than a dozen years ago for these oil prices were clearly coming.

Before you go condeming the engine why don't you find out what kind of MPG it will deliver without the emission controls. I'm sure that Ford would have prefered to build a truck that delivered the MPG of previous non emission engines, if it were legally possible today. You can thank the EPA for your trouble, and the political Nincompoops that YOU voted into office who think they are saving the planet by muzzling the diesel engine. BTW don't home heating systems also burn Diesel? I'm sure they burn as dirty or worse. Maybe we need a DPF on every chimney.
part of the problem is also the hp/torque race that has occured with the new dz. tune an engine to put out those kind of numbers and your milage will suffer too. i think that plus the new emissions combine to poor fuel economy. interesting that the new duramax seems to be less affected by the changes, at least in highway milage.

Would have to agree with you more. There are so many factors. These are big trucks with low gears are built to haul. A 9,000# with 4:30s is not going to get the same milage as my 4,000# Escape especially with the new regulations. With the fuel prices increasing I wouldn't want to be in the big 3's shoes especially Ford since trucks are their bread and butter. Right now I'll have to drive the Escape more.
I think it is more about the emissions than the rising power levels. Example, my older trucks actually got better mileage with a power adder. I think if you are not putting your foot in it, the increased power will improve mileage. They are using additional timing also to increase the power which does generally improve mileage.
can you put exhaust tips on the new 2008 ford f250 diesel or dose it get to hot?
Recently I read an article in a diesel truck magazine about an exhaust cangeout.
Saposedly you can't take the factory tips off or the ehaust will get to hot but these guys did it. the only way it will work is if you up size the entire ehaust system.
