my neighbors truck was getting 22 but after turned it up he detuned it cause he didnt lik that much horsepower just to tow a camper so hes back in the 17 and 18s with his 7.3L but my 6.4 is still only getting around 10.8-12.9 it sucks fuel faster than they make it
With my previous trucks, I was used to getting anywhere from 15-20 mpg, depending on driving conditions. My '08 is averaging less than 12 mpg. One thing's for sure, with crude oil topping $95/barrel, I'm gonna be cryin' the blues.
yes , these are the pinnacle of suck-y mpg trucks, CALL THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE HOTLINE, give them an earful, maybe it will go to the top so something will get done.
They'll tell you there are not rated, I tell them the one I traded in was better, I called my congress women and senator, and told them....since the automaker is going backwards with an "envirnmental engine" there's no coservation being gained at all, rather the opposite, yet the 1985 trash trucks in our town PUKE black smoke....LOL
I hope this post was in jest...
asking congress for help in your purchase decision is just dopey

I am telling CONGRESS the latest pollution control mod's to diesels may cause poor fuel economy.
Dopey, Yes the are, nobody I spoke to had any IDEA this was the case, they are making policy and not looking back to see the results...at least I spoke up.
Where, why and how do you get I asked anybody for help in my purchase?
Never Did, and Never Will.
And Yes- I do call FORD MOTOR CO hot line, about several things.
I used to compare my mileage to my 99 dodge but it was rated at 190 hp and this one is alot more and I can feel it and like it very much....
Now I've been testing this for 6 tanks of fuel now.
Before : 400 miles to tank approx 33 gallons 12 mpg
After : 500-550 miles to tank still 33 gallons 16 mpg
These tests are empty and no towing and all I did was install a flash program. It is a hypertech max energy and have it one stage one only enough to change the ford program. So far I like.. I did not do this for the power just mileage. I chose this unit because no wires, no holes, no gauges, and can remove it in 5 minutes to go to dealer, like it never happened. (warranty) It still regens but does not seem to be as often.... I have 5100 miles on the truck now

Might be the tuner or it might be your truck is breaking in. If it gets better, then you will know its still breaking in.
I could understand a slow increase in mpg over a time frame from 0 - 20,000 miles as the truck breaks in but as far as the truck breaking in in just one tankfull of fuel at the same time program was installed just seems a little more than just breaking in... I was just trying to report my findings thats all, I'm not selling anything...
Yea my powerstroke is a diesel sow it loves to roll around and suck every last drop up getting 7-9 around town and 10-12 average on highway only on its 2nd tank but always hoping for better numbers one day when its all "Grown up" lol

This is good, keep up the report,,,,I am looking at this program I used HT last time and was pleased, but 12 to 16 is a big jump....suprised to see 12 with a 3.73
My 2008 F450 4x4 6.4 auto with 4.88 grears is getting 10 to 11 in town, 8-9 on the road empty and I got 5.8 towing my 12,000 lb boat back from Mobile, AL. It sucks!!

you wanna play you pay!

unless you got money to burn or are rollin' like King Tut, at 4 bucks/gal its gonna eat you alive.

Sounds like you drive too fast for the gearing, you should have a 350 with 3.73's for that weight. My 450 with 4.30's got 8.76 towing 17k for over 2000 miles this summer and am now averaging 13.4 mpg hand calculated, round town and rural driving.70mph mpg drops to 12mpg on the computer. So if you are driving 70 with 4.88's you are going to only get 8-9 mpg. Rpms and boost eat the fuel.
