Clutch TIME ! :-(

Hey everyone, can you recommend a clutch for my truck. I am now @ 185000KMS and the stock clutch appears to be slipping when I put my foot into it in 3rd gear. I am ordering my DP tuner and my superchip is sold as of today. So I figure I should think about replacing the clutch very soon. Anyone recommend a reasonably priced, but heavy duty clutch for this thing? I have heard that its recommended to replace the pressure plate etc. as the stock one is kinda crappy and shouldn't be turned...

How long does it take to get this thing out? And is it difficult? (I have rebult motors my whole life, however never worked on a diesel at all)

2001 F350 7.3L - Stock

Soon to add 4" turbo back with DP tune

Maybe more if I really like it.

Call Larry or Patrick at DiscountPowerParts and ask them about a SouthBend. Make sure to leave a message if they don't answer. They get busy in the shop. Tell them I told you to call. On the floor it will probably take you about 6hrs. It's not real hard just real heavy.

A tranny jack is a requirement unless you are descended from Sampson.
Get the pilot bushing made from Kevlar, not the pilot bearing. The bearing will fail and take the whole transmission with it. (Personal experience. )

I was looking at some Southbend clutches online already. Is there a kit that replaces the flywheel as well? I understand that it is recommended to go to a single mass (not sure if thats correct) rather than replace with the same thats in there being a dual mass or something.
I figure I should get one that is capable of 500hp or at the very least 450 as I will be doing some playing soon.
Thanks for the recommendation for a contact! I am not familliar with these places you recommend as I live in Victoria B.C. Canada. But with the dollar the way it is right now, I am sure it will be worth my while to purchase out of the U.S.

I agree with Kevin, SB is a kick azz clutch. I've never heard a bad thing about them. But there is also another option. Val Air. www.valairinc dot com click on the performance section. I have one of their clutches and love it. Either way, Val Air or South Bend you can't go wrong. Both will hold tons of power.

I would personally recommend the LUK clutch system with the Kevlar pilot bushing. You will not be disappointed!! Personal experience. Good luck!!

I was in the SAME boat about 6 months ago... I finally went with the LUK clutch upgrade with flywheel. I have a 4x4 so I knew this was going to be a hell of a job. I rented a tranny jack and went at it one evening after work. Believe it or not, I was done in about 8 hours. The whole project went fairly smooth and I have very happy with the new clutch.. The pedal was so light that I thought something was wrong.. Go with the Luk,, you wont be disappointed.

Well guys, you are offering me up a pretty good assortment of choices here. I will be doing some pricing on these guys over the next few weeks with a plan to replace the clutch near the end of the year. Right now its only slipping when the turbo winds up in 3rd/4th with a camper on. I expect it will progressivly get worse when I get my DP-Tuner next week.

my pedal was a bit softer than the stocker at first, but im used to it now, but sometimes when im goin thru the gears hard the pedal wants to stick on the floor, apparently taking that spring off stops that..but in my mind that spring should help pull it up?
