Hey guys...you have all been great sources of info and I have another question for you. I am in the process of rebuilding my 83 I6 300 (carb'd) and want to install the EFI split exhaust manifolds through a dual in/out cat and then true duals straight back (no mufflers). I have been searching E-bay and junkyards for a while now and cannot find the spilt exhaust manifolds anywhere ? Are they that much in demand that everyone sucks them up ? If anyone knows someone with a set they want to get rid of or where I might be able to buy some on-line...please help !
Check the classifieds at Fordsix.com. Fordman (Ted) was selling a pair for around $100 (I think). They pop up on ebay once in a while. I paid $65 for my pair.
I have also been watching fordsix.com. Reading through all the exhaust posts I thought I might try fordpartsonline.com. They sell the front and rear halves seperately for around $65.00 a piece. I don't think I can beat that ! Since you say you have a pair, I will assume you installed them. Any tips ? Projects like this never turn out a seasy as they sound...lol.
ps. when they come down off the head, are they in-line with each other (fore and aft) or are they offset ? I am hoping they are offset so I can run them straight into the cat. I was also wondering about the EGR tube. Do they have provisions for it, or do I just block off the EGR valve.
I have not installed the pair I bought on ebay. I want to port them out a bit along with a nice coating. I'm waiting on install untill I get my rebuild project completed. Here's a post from fordsix:

Here's an informative post too, just a few threads ago in this forum:

As far as the EGR goes, yes there is a hole to connect a pipe up to the EGR plenum, but make sure you're thermactor system doesn't inject air into the old stock exhaust manifold. I think you'd be best off checking out an EFI setup on a junkyard truck...or maybe act like a buyer and check one out that's in the paper....maybe you can find a nice EFI guy here to post a photo.
Keep your eyes peeled. I'm sure you can find a set for $100 or less.
$100 for the split manifolds?!?!? That makes the Hedman headers an even better deal at $120. I figured the stock manifolds went for $30-50. I replaced the split manifolds on mine with the headers and it was the best $120 I ever spent on the truck.
I did have some trouble with exhaust leaks at first. I remedied them by using two intake/exhaust manifold gaskets a the cylinder head and copper gaskets at the collectors. I've had the double gaskets at the head for around 2 years with no leaks, and the copper collector gaskets for over a year with no leaks. When I put the new engine in next spring (I hope) I'm going to grind the sealing surface of the header flat and weld it on the other side to keep it from cutting through gaskets.
Have a hacksaw/chop saw and grinder handy when you do it and before you try to mount them set them up on a flat surface like they will mount and you will see the flange portion (exhaust manifold) that must be removed, also I matched the exhaust manifolds up to the gasket and marked them to insure I mated them up to the head properly and I have been happy with the results. Supposedly the flanges on the EFI exhaust manifolds and some of the aftermarket intakes are different in thickness but I checked and they measured the same. I am still working on the EGR issue, I haven’t decided on welding the EGR mount to a spacer to make my own adapter or use the Edelbrock unit, I have to look at it again as it was made for a V8 and decide which is easier.
