Daytime Running Lights

I have searched and searched this and many other sites for info pertaining to this.
I have a 2005 SuperCrew XLT and I am looking to enable or activate DRLs. Are there any folks from Canada that might know what a auto dealer does to activate them so they can sell a vehicle they picked up from U.S.?
On my wifes 07 Dodge Caravan, we took it to dealership and they programmed it in 5 minutes to activate them. Something about setting country code to Canada and voila they were on. No fees, no modules, nothing... everything was in place!
Back to the ford, I see a site that activates the parking lamps, I like that idea better, but I am not into crawling around and slicing and dicing into my wires... just asking for electrical problems down the road I would think!
I have autolamps BTW, and already read about covering up the sensor, but that turns on tail lights and would negate any safety benefits from having lights on all the time.
I don't mind paying for modules or whatever as long as it uses existing wiring.
My only option at this point is to buy the 6 wire module from the dealer and do some tapping. (Is this what a canadian auto dealer would have to install?) I was just curious if there was a quicker solution.
Jeff

I am a little suprised nobody has responded from Canada that may be familiar of the procedure necessary to activate the lights to prepare a F150 from the States for sale in Canada. I know there are alot of posts involving DRLs, but I am in disbelief that the same truck is sold up north with lights, yet in the States they aren't on. I respect everyone's right to choose whether they are on or not, so I am not knocking Ford. Just looking for the best way to activate mine.
Thanks
Jeff D.

I looked into this extensively when I imported my 07 F150 KR into Canada back in June. My conclusion: If you have a US made truck destined for the US the necessary wiring is not in place to just add the Ford module to enable DRL. I spoke with several Techs including calling Tech Level 2 at Ford and they all said the wiring will not be there. In the end I bought (from a Ford Dealer) a DRL module (3rd party) and wired it in. Took me an hour and was dead simple. Now I'm legal in Canada as the lights turn on 10 seconds after the vehicle starts. The cost of the DRL module was $80 CAD. Hope this helps.

so this module turns on the headlights also? or just the parking lights? if it turns on the headlights, then it is definately easier/cheaper to darken the sensor.... if it turns on the parking lamps, i think it is illegal to drive with just those on in some states. im confused as to what actually turns on?

It turns on the headlights only, at a reduced percentage of the low beams. Easier to darken the sensor yes, but apparently while having the inspection done (in Canada) they specifically look to see if the DRL are installed or if the sensor is being tricked. If they see the tape over it they fail your vehicle.

Thanks fordman, that is good enough for me to realize I do have to slice into some wires, I read somewhere Wal*Mart sells a different kind of splicer that screws into the wire... I will check into that. I have autolamps which I am sure your KR has, do you recall the part no. for the DRL? I have a couple numbers and just wanted to make sure I will be ordering the right one. TIA

It is a Cole Hersee DRL kit, sorry I don't know the part number, but I think there was only one Cole Hersee kit listed that fits the F150s.

I have a 2006 Expedition that I imported from the USA and it needs DRL to be legal. Apparently it uses the fog lamps for the DRL. Does anyone know if this is plug-in fix or does it require wiring in a new module. Anyone out there had this experience? Could use some help.
Thanks
