Where is the best place to buy good qaulity ball joints? My truck failed state inspection because of ball joints. They want to rock me $100 a peice for just lower and $66 for uppers, then theres labor. I never did ball joints and I have just basic hand tools. Any advice? Just let them do it? Its a friend of mine so the labor is not as much... Thanks guys..........
What kind or quality are those Moog brand ball joints? I've never heard of them. Thanks for the link to instructions but I don't think I can takle this task at the moment. How long will new ball joints with the greese fitting going to last? Someone told me they are a weak design bt ford and they wont last.
Moog is about as good of a balljoint that you can buy. I would not put anything else on my personal vehicle. Unfortunately they don't have stuff for my 06 yet, but your 02 they have covered quite nicely. You can get them at O-reilly's off the shelf if your town has one.
And for how long they will last................A heck of a lot longer than OEM ford.
I do not have the moog part numbers. He just ordered me some from napa and told me moog makes them FOR napa. Anyone ever hear that before?
I'd be interested to know that. NAPA does have a "premium" joint and a "standard" joint that they sell.
Also, there is a kit that one of our sponsors sells that includes the joint, seals, etc ........ and the correct jig that is missing from Advance Auto's ball joint press (they loan you the press, for free)
As far as installing the joints yourself, I sat in a lawn chair and watched my 16 year old son do the job himself in our driveway, using RacerGuy's instructions/photos. Basic hand tools and a vice. And a ball joint press that you borrow, or, once you get the knuckles off, run them over to a local place that presses stuff.
What those one instructions said about going to Ford to have them install 2 large seals, the RacerGuy instructions explains, with photos, how to do it yourself with $12 of pipe from the hardware store.
I am not an expert but I am currently looking into rebuilding my 2006. I have only been able to find spicer profesional grade. I will let you know on Monday when I continue my search. The price i found was 44.00 for the pro grade and 20 for the service grade.
My front end is still ok. I have it at Spartan now and when it gets back I am going to rebuild it so it is like new. Its has 62k on it and it is just not as tight as I would like it. So maybe this is a little over kill but I just want to do it.
max66, OK I was wondering as mine has about 64000 on it now and dont seem to have anything loose on it but both my last three(2000 f250,2000 ex,2001 f250) all were down arund there and was wondering if I should expcet the same on the coil front.
