I'm totally stumped. I went out of town on Tuesday and my truck was running fine. Came back on Thursday night, got in my truck and here's what happened (all at the same time):
1. ABS light came on.
2. Speedometer won't work under 35MPH
3. Truck won't shift up until 3500 RPMs and then feels like it shifts from 1st to 3rd.
4. When it downshifts, it does it with a "clunk"
5. When I came up the last hill to my house it felt like the transmission was slipping. I'd let off the gas, it would downshift and then it was ok until I went faster and then it would happen again.
6. "O/D Off" light starts flashing above 35MPH but quits when I go below that.
I checked all the fluids and everything is fine. I disconnected the neg battery for 30 minutes in case it was a computer hiccup. That didn't help.
Before I have it towed to the mechanic, does anybody have any ideas?
VSS ore VSS wiering. I'm not sure about location, I saw VSS in rear diff., in tranny of my old aero, ore as VSS ABS sensors may be used (on some bosch abs). Pull OBD-II codes. Check VSS signal with o-scope. May be signal is low.
It was definitely the speed sensor ($28 at the stealership). It was easy to get to after I dropped the spare tire. The sensor is right on top of the "pumpkin" (as my dad calls it). Sprayed the bolt with WD40 and left it for 20 minutes. The bolt came right off. Couldn't have been easier. Thanks for the help!
I have to admit, I got the idea from someone that posted on this board while I was reading the back logs. Its an easy fix too. Solved 2 of my problems related to shifting and ABS error codes, took 15 min to do.
