Don't ever rely on just a winch and it's pulling power if the load is 1/2 the rated
capacity of the winch(that's figuring the stuckness so to say) You should be using
a block and tackle at least one run back or if you can afford a double block so
you can go to the stuck truck back to recovery truck and then back to the stuck
truck it takes longer, But you will be able to pull a loaded dumptruck out that
is sitting on the frame if you had too. With enough block and tackle you could pull
alot out with people power. Give me a come along and a good block and tackle set
any day over a winch especially if you wheel alone. Find a U.S. army book about
vehicle recovery and read it they have a lot of good info for off road driving and
recovery, I forget the name and number of the book any exmilitary here have and
could scan it and post please, I would like to read it again myself!!

I always use straps and clevises...I never use a chain unless it's to extend something for less than 4 foot...that's only cause I seen one go into the firewall of a f-350 crew cab long bed....from the back...it HAD a tailgate......and ****** blocks are a wonderful thing as blue said........if you double that cable back and forth a few times....he'll pop right on out...happy ridin.

Yeah. Around here when you pull a wrecker out after he pulls you out the bill is half price.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but that doesn't look like actual winch cable to me. It looks like your garden variety nylon rope. No wonder it snapped.

Speakin of stuck......Friday night a buddy of mine slid into some 44 ruts with his F-150 on 33's...saturday night a 2001 Chebby went into the same hole on 35's and framed it out........two of my buddies snatched on him and couldn't git him out.....one was an 86 F-150 converted to 7.3 PSD with a 5 speed and one was a 2001 F-30 Dually on 38's.......the f-150 had about 400 foot of rope and by the time the rope got tight on the last ****** he was in 4th gear...then it broke went through the Chebby tailgate and into the back of the cab without budging the truck. The 350 had just as much rope and moved him about a foot before the rope went through HIS tailgate.......so the guy in the 350 called a buddy of his and got a bobcat out there....When the bobcat got out there Forest Service Law Enforcement was writin the guy in the Chebby a 600 dollar fine and was bout to write the guy with the bobcat one until he told em...."Look, I can either get this guy out of here right here right now.....or I can leave him sitting there." which then they said nevermind........the bobcat had to pick up the *** end of the Chebby to git him out....talk bout an expensive bill......

Must be the way the pictures were taken then. I swear I can see blued strands (like the striping in a nylon rope).
