6.0 vs 6.4

First, I just wanted to say that the 08 trucks are unbelievably beautiful. The interior is just awesome. I just test drove one, a KR, and i don't know if i got a weak one, but it just didn't seem to have that much power. The ride was super smooth and it was very quiet, but i don't think it ran as good as a 6.0. I have been on the fence for a while so i just had to test drive one. I think i am going to hold on a while longer. Also, the mileage showed 10.7 with 389 miles on it. Do you guys that are previous 6.0 owners think the 6.4 has more power?

I've heard this before, The 6.4's seem (by consensus) a little gutless compared to previous PSD's. I would sacrifice speed for better engine reliability and less maitnence (unlike some 6.0's) so far there doesn't seem to be to many big problems with the 6.4's,but they are like infants and i would hold off. just wait another year to see how these engines hold up. Anyone towed with a 6.0 and a 6.4 ,any difference? what do the #'s Say?

You know, i was rolling about 5 mph and got on it and it just slowly sped up. i have driven a few 6.0's and there is no way that this 6.4 could even come close to out running any of them. I read somewhere where the 6.4 was supposed to be 1 sec faster 0-60 than the 6.0, but there is no way. I am like you though, if these 6.4's hold up and don't live at the dealer like my 6.0 is right now, i will eventually get one. Man, i tell you what, my 04 can't hold a candle to the comfort and beauty of the 08's.

It could have just been one of those days. I know some days my 6.0 runs like a freight train, other days it just chugs along. Who knows? I am going to wait and see if they make another outlaw in a few years. Maybe they will find another way to get a few more mpg's by then.

I too took out one of the new 08 6.4's out for a test drive. Although it handled very well and was super comfortable, I was not too impressed with the power. I had been told that the twin turbo was suppose to get rid of the turbo lag. I was disappointed to find that it was about the same as my 05 6.0. And it seemed like my 6.0 had a little more umph as well. Still trying to get use to the looks of the front end too, but it's starting to grow on me.
Not to say that I wont break down and buy one of the newer Superduties with that 6.4 eventually, on the contrary I am thinking about it very much. It just really depends how they hold up reliability wise in the next couple of years. My 6.0 is doing right by me so far, but after the 100K warranty is up, I am concerned that I wont be able to afford repairs. And with the pesky 6.0 rumors floating around, I worry about becoming aware some day that they are in fact not rumors after all.
Until I finally take the leap, I'll keep enjoying my 05. So far its been a great tow vehicle for us. Plenty of power and comfort.

6.4 vs 6.0

yeap I own a sicko that so far has not lived up to it reputation. It has been great! I do not like it as well as my previous 7.3's. I love the new O8's. They drive like a dream. But nope I don't buy that they are a stronger engine. I have had the opp. to drive a F450 with 488 gears, and the F350 the 410 gears. Then I drove the F250 idenitical to my f250 with 373's. Hands down I will run my 6.0 against any of them. NOW I would love to get a chance to tow with one to compare it that way.

Yup, I have heard that they will tow the heck out of just about any trailer load you can throw at it. That's really what I'm looking for in a tow vehicle anyway. Not so much the horses, but the grunt. I would like to have the opportunity to be able to tow my trailer with that 6.4. That way I could compare apples to apples.

my 6.4 does have turbo lag from hell. but she's a runner. from a stop with a small trailer and a single atv she'll leave 4 black stripes from a stop sign at will.

Well I had a 2003 6.0 (trouble free) and its hard for me to remember what it was like b4 I got the predator but here are a couple of my opinions. The 6.0 did feel a bit faster unloaded but loaded I would say the 6.4 actually does as good as the 6.0 did set at economy tow mode. The 6.4 seems to shift slightly more(just one gear going up grades) but after shifting you can go as fast as you want up any grade that I have encountered thus far. I tow a 10,000 lbs camper. With that being said lets consider them equal as far as seat of the pants feel for speed. We must then go to the rest of the truck and believe me there is no comparison any where else between my 03 and this 08. Road noise is almost gone, passing tractor trailors on the highway you cant even hear them going by. Engine noise is much less although you can still hear some diesel sound which I like. Comfort is at a new level. The biggy for most people seems to be fuel mileage. I never got very good numbers out of my 6.0 so the mileage of my 6.4 doesn't bother me I got 9.2 towing 70 mph avg up and down hills of the Pa Tpk. Overall the 6.4 is a much nicer more sophisticated truck and I love it!!!

I think the 6.4 has more power, but its the way its harnessed that makes it feel gutless. I know they do not smoke, so they probably has some method of ramping up the fuel and power. The 6.0 does this, but i can nail my 6.0 and have it break the tires when the turbo spools up, it will also smoke a bit until it catches up with itself. Since the 08 won't do that, i imagine they throttle it back so it can sort of catch up with itself. I think if you were to nail two of them side by side going 70mph you would see quicker 08. Who the hell buys a diesel to hotrod off the line anyway? Its not made for that, its made for pulling, and when you are pulling, you don't need all the power all at once.
