For the comparison sakes I think we should try to get some real 0-60 times on the stop watch. 3 runs and average them out. From 250s single cab with 3.73's to 450's with 4.88's. It would be great to see some times towing trailers too. I think I'll do that and start another thread

I have an '03 6.0, and I am only on my third block (oil leaks!). I think the 08 grill is the ugliest one on the road. Good thing I can't see it from the drivers seat! If I wanted something fast and sporty looking, I would be looking at a sports car, not a superduty truck. If the towing performance and reliability is better on the 6.4, then that is what I will go for next time around. I won't make the mistake of buying a truck on the first year that the engine is in production. I'll be looking at the 6.4 in a year or two when there is a better feel for the reliability.

When I test drove my 08 I was not impressed with the acceleration and thought it about the same as my 06. Thirty minutes later I was test driving a 3500 GMC LMM Dually, I was very impressed with the acceleration.

Being there is more than acceleration with respect to my purchase I bought the best truck.

With that being said and my new truck being heavier, lower gears, and a dually........ and now with 1500 miles on the clock.... it runs better than either of my previous F-250's from a standing stop. I don't notice turbo lag to speak of from a standing stop. It runs better than it did when I test drove it. It went into regen just after I got it home from the dealer so maybe that was having some effect? I don't really know nor care though.

My 04 6.0 spent a little time in the shop for warranty repairs but overall was a great truck. My 06 spent some initial time (towed twice) in shop for a bad starter but other than that no real problems. They both had terrible turbo lag from a standing stop (short of power stalling); my 08 doesn't.

The 06 pulled great (37-1/2 foot long fiver just under 14K lbs); it would gain speed on hills if someone cut you off during that climb, etc. 10 MPG towing; mid 15's overall solo; 17's highway solo.

It seems like many like to bash the 6.0 with their 6.4 posts. My two 6.0 trucks were good to me and I have no reason to bash.

My really short towing trip last weekend with 08 got 6.4 MPG towing; tanks w/o towing 11's. Will be towing from OKC to Ft. Worth Thursday so I will get better idea of how the new truck does overall towing.

Am I happy with the mileage. No, but anyone that takes the time to research or read the forums prior to purchase should know the 6.4 is not earning a reputation for great fuel mileage. I bought it knowing that.

Hearing people that don't even own the 6.4 bad mouthing it is sort of like someone talking bad about your kids ; it is one thing when you are doing the complaining but taken entirely different when someone else is badmouthing your kid.

One can only hope that Ford will come out with an updated flash that will help the fuel economy out at some point. It would also be nice if they would display DPF percent efficiency or something to indicate how close one is to regen and provide way to initiate the regen and to delay the regen. Be nice to be able to manually initiate a regen prior to performance test or trip pulling a load.... or delay it if I'm out in a field, etc. or just know the percent efficiency of the DPF when doing a test drive, etc.

I think he may be referring to posts in other threads as well.
And he does make some good points.

Thumbs up

I love my 6.4L PSD it pulls about same as my 6.0L PSD and i don't notice turbo lag on both them. I got on my 08 once getting on the freeway around this slow moving car and moved & accelerated very well and left the car in the dust. I love my truck and wouldn't buy anything else. I think that 08 are great trucks and did love my 06 too. Plus I think it does better going up hill with towing trailer than my 06 6.0L PSD.

Sorry for the ranting , as Olfordsnstone indicated, I was speaking in general terms with respect to overall threads and not picking on anyone in particular. Just some general observations....

BTW, son in law has 04 F-250 Harley.

I am starting to think maybe i need to go test drive another one. Maybe i didn't let that one warm up enough. I really want one! I just need a good reason to go get one. My 6.0 is running pretty good right now. I wasn't trying to bash the 6.4 in earlier posts. I was trying to inform people like me who are on the fence and see if they had the same experience.

From my other post 0-60 times my F450 with a weight of about 9,000# average was 10.34 and shifted 4 times. truck trend in 2004 showed a f350drw 6.0 a time of 8.5 (seems a little fast) a Dodge 3500drw with the cummings showed 11.18. Its seems times can be all over the place depending on the truck. Hopefully I will get some other honest results on that post. truck trends time for our Armada showed 7.1 but I averaged 8.4. I would think the new 6.4 250 reg cab could probably average around 9 seconds.
