Pegging gauges

Pegging gauges
The fuel, temp and oil gauges pegged today while driving today. I had a aux cab fan running (through cig lighter) and defrost fan running. After I powered both off, gauges returned to normal. Since the only way I know to force this would be to ground the gauges. I am not sure where to start looking for the cause. Any suggetions?
