To follow up on my thread that i started a few weeks ago..... I really wanted a diesel, however i have come to the conclusion that from a pure financial perspective, it is just not worth it. When i get my X, it will be for weekend trips and little more. Hauling trailers here and there and the occasional romp through the mud and forest....

The cost difference is incredible when you compare an X with PSD VS the V10. I cannot see from my perspective how the additional cost of a PSD would be recouperated, what with the additional costs associated with maintenance on a diesel.

I am hoping to have a deal I am working on right now go through..

2000 XLT V10 with 75K miles.
6" Fabtech lift (Properly done) / Steering / Traction bars
few other nice additions
Warn Hubs
MT 36" tires and ALCOA wheels
Never offroaded, one owner family fun vehicle

I actuallly prefer the cloth interior over the leather. It's in mint condition...

I am hoping to secure for $12K.

That seems like a good deal, is it in good condition? Alcoa rims are really nice

Thanks for all the replies!

I was really looking for positive comments on the V10 gas motor and I found them from actual owners. For the limited use of the Excursion, I have decided on the gas V10. Now you good folks did bring up some interesting and thought-provoking ideas on going for a Limited or EB edition for the "entertainment" system. That I didn't think of, just trying to get cheapest entry. That would keep the kids entertained and still serve my purposes. So my hunt is back on but just looking around trucktrader.com and eBay, there are still awfully good deals on V10 Ex's so I think I won't have a problem finding one. Saw a really nice 2005 Limited but just a bit out of my budget, previous poster was right on in that I am trying to obtain something I can either pay cash for or only finance for 12 months.

Again, I really appreciate all your replies and suggestions - The V10 wins, now I just have to find one

If you plan on bumping up to the LTD or EB for mainly only the entertainment system, do a search on here for an excellent thread on a "Do-It-Yourself" entertainment system that will cost next to nothing and is VERY well thought out... That is/will be my plan.

OTher than some paint peel on a corner of the passenger back door window and on the front driver fender, it is in mint condition (From what i can tell).

It's just a LITTLE higher than i wanted to go with, however i absolutely love the stocky look of the wider MT's.

what kind of M/T's does the truck have?

OCD machine, are u buying a LTD or EB for the leather or the DVD player? Or are u buying a LTD or EB for both the leather and DVD. If ur buying it for the DVD player, have u thought about buying a XLT and adding the DVD player? Im sure that this will save u money if that is your goal

You can even find a factory ford system on eBay fairly often if you want the stock look. Most electronic stores can do one installed now for around $500-600 if you go aftermarket. Run a PS2 and you can watch DVD and play games if your kids are into that.

Have to agree with this one, if your just after the DVD i'd go with an aftermarket and possibly even a bigger screen.

My limited had everything i wanted plus the DVD, if i was just after the DVD. I'd a went a cheaper route and spent more $$ on a really nice aftermarket DvD system.

Negotiating on a 2000 XLT right now!

It's 2WD, 125K miles, V10, looks pretty nice just waiting to run the VIN for Oasis and Carfax report. The price is right ($7,000) and it appears to have been well taken care of. Found a nice 4X4 on eBay but the Carfax showed FEMA flood registration (? that scared me!).

Not sure where in central TX your from, but I bought our V10 Limited X in the DFW area for $13K, 75K miles. Needed ball joints which I did myself, and tires. I found that, in gerneral, the metro areas is where the deals are.

I find (Coming from a canadian perspective!!!!) that Texas in general has the BEST selection of X's.... Darn thing for me anyhow is that it is about as far away for me as possible, making it difficult and expensive to buy from this state....

OCDmachine, thats a good deal for 7 g's. That fema flod registration could mean that the truck could of been in a flood.
