Just to replace the compressor wheel- Once it is on a bench, remove the 5 bolts holding the compressor to the backplate, hold the turbine wheel with a pair of vise grips on the end, and turn the wheel off with a 5/8" wrench. To do it right you should remove the turbo from the truck, however some people here have risked it and done it in the truck.
sorry I never played with a turbo before. I plan to take it apart this weekend to put a new wheel in it and want to make sure I have everything I need to put it all back together. I just thought there might be a gasket or o ring in there somewhere. I would hate to tear it apart and need somthing I can't ger right away
Well to remove the turbo, you're going to at least need the two o-rings to seal up the connection at the turbo to the pedestal. While you are there, you should just replace the ones at the lower end of the pedestal at the block. So that's two small o-rings and two large ones.
