Alright, I want a chip/tuner. I was looking at Edge Evolution and heard some people say not to. I also looked at the DP-Tuner. What are you guys running for power levels in the DP. I was thinking 60, 80, and 120. What are the most popular. Also, Is the Evolution a bad programmer for out trucks. A big plus for the evo is that it is a code reader as well as a chip with good power levels. I have gauges on the way, in the middle of the 6637 intake, straight pipe exhuast with stock DP. If i run the DP Tuner is there any other mods that I must do so I dont have problems with fuel and oil pressure? How is the smoke with the DP Tuner/Edge Evolution?
Best to do the pipe first, then get the chip either DP's or Wildman's.I haven't heard any good about the edge on obs trucks. Also what are your plans for truck daily driver, towing how often and how much wieght.Do you plan on injectors in the future. All this makes a difference when ordering chip.I would go 60tow, 80economy.80tow,1100hi-idle,and 100performance.
As said DP and Tony Wildman (total diesel performance) top edge, superchip, banks, bully puppy. as their tuning goes you will get more useable power. meaning more power with less exhuast temps. With stock injectors you can't expect more than 70-80 hp gain. The injectors just can't flow that much fuel. but that doesn't mean you can't get a 100 or 120 tune. it just may not feel any better than the 80. Best thing to do when ordering a chip is tell either DP or TW what you have done to your truck and how you use it (daily driver, tow rig, go fast) and they can tell which programs would be best. They are the experts in their field.
You will get a MUCH smoother running engine with tuning from Tony or Jody. I had to put the edge in while my chip was being reburnt and it is a lot louder and ran rough. They are about the same price.... plus you can change settings on the fly with a chip.
hey. i sing the superchips tune. but yes, first, u need a pipe. i got a 3.5 from the local shop which is always cheaper, and paid $125 for the pipe, with pyro bung already in it, and superchip tuner is $369. i love my superchip on both of my 7.3s and the diagnostic code scanning is worth the money alone. smooth power, 30 60 90 settings. i tow huge loads and keep mine on 90 with no gauges and no problems. but, i also have a k&n intake $239 here, and totally worth it, and get rid of that cat. they choke u up bad! if u want they're number email me opietaylor@windstream.net.

no offense meant by this. This is what I really believe to be true.
The K+N is your problem if it flows dirt. Some do, some don't. But do let me tell you that running a 90hp program with no gauges especially towing heavy you are damaging your engine. Pistons get heat stress cracks. They won't fail from just a few hot bursts but trust me, each time you run that truck over 1200 degree's longer than a short time (long enough to heat soak) those pistons are stressed and damaged by means of little heat cracks. And after enough times they fail. You will be surprised at the temps your putting down with any tuner running heavy loads.

see everyone says this and yes i will live by it... but the only thing is... look at the guys with completely stock trucks running over half a million miles with no problems towing super heavy loads... you're telling me that they're not running over 1200 degrees everytime they hook that trailer up?? idk i think these engines can handle A LOT more heat than we think they can.... but i'm not gonna be the guinnea pig
