Pulled a salvage yard special today. Out of a 1976 3/4 ton.
Block # C5A3-6015-F
Date code 5K15
Am I correct in interpreting the date code as November 15, 1975? That would make sense, but the engine has been rebuilt at some point and could have been traded off for another.
The "C" still defines the part creation (design) in the 60's. It may have easily been used in the 70's applications....but the casting design was set in the 60's. The problem is that it still doesn't give you an actual date the casting was poured or when the motor was assembled....then it's up to VIN data....and still that's just for the truck as a whole.
When I was looking the motor over yesterday I found the rebuild sticker of a local remanufacturer. The engine is not original to the truck. So then there is no way to tell for sure what year it is, right?
