Still not starting up when cold

Well i hate to think that I've been beaten. I hae a 88 4x4
F-150 4.9 fuel injected. She doesn't start when cold. I have gone over the fuel system and replaced the high pressure pump and filter. I have 60 psi at the fuel rail so I know it's getting fuel up there. I posted a message a couple of weeks ago and it was mentioned about the air bypass solenoid. I have to believe this is the problem. can anyone explain how this system works. Is it like a choke on a carb? What controls it? Ignition is fine. It will start right up after it warms up. Runs nice an smooth. I need this truck up and running before the snow really starts to fly.

The Idle Air Bypass, or IAC is on the side of your throttle body and looks like some type of solenoid with some wires coming out. its attached with 2 screws to the side of the t/b. take it off and spray it out with carb cleaner and make sure the little passages on the inside are clear.

It doesn't seem like the IAC would keep the engine from starting. If it was the problem the engine would start if you gave it a little gas. My suspicion is the coolant temp sensor. Usually when they fail the EEC reads the lowest temp it is programmed to recognize, typically around -60 F. When this happens it dumps too much fuel resulting in a rich condition. However, it is also possible that the sensor is reading higher than normal. This would cause the EEC to shorten the injector pulse width, giving less fuel. Try unplugging the CTS on the T-stat housing and see if that helps.

I know this sounds odd but I have an 88 4.9l 4 speed I had the same problem I was running 30 weight oil to try to keep the motor from leaking. Then when cold weather came and my truck would not stay running until it warmed up I come to find out that the oil I was using was to think in the wintertime for the motor to run right. So I switched to thinner oil. And that solved my problem

Some good suggestions were made, but for my 2 cents, I think Silver Streak's suggestion is a good place to start. I'd be interested in knowing if when it won't start and you pull a plug is it wet fouled and sloppy with gas or is it dry. Sounds like you've run down the fuel route, but did you say you checked the fuel pressure regulator? If the plugs come out dry, that's what I'd replace.

AAAHHHHHH- Here's what I've done to date. I took the by-pass solenoid off and cleaned it. Replaced the air temp sensor. Still doesn't want to start when cold. I also tried unplugging the Coolant temp. sensor. I feel like the battle is slipping away.Iknow the ignition is okay -otherwise it would start when warmed up. I feel the problem isn't with the fuel supply. I put a new High press. pump in and a fuel regulator.
When I bought the truck it didn't run because it had a bad ignition module. I replaced it with a different manufacture insted of motorcraft. Replaced the plugs, cap and rotor. The coil was questionable also, so I replaced it as well.
I accessed the error codes and I have a error 24( air temp sensor) and a 67 (?). I'm at a loss here. Once I shoot it with starting fluid - It turns right over. Let it cool down and she doesn't start. My wife is having a big laugh over this. I insist I could get it going without running it over to the dealer.
