Hello there, I have an issue with my truck 93 4.9 six shooter. When its cold, the fuel pump stays on forever and doesn't shut off for about 10 to 15 min. I have recently replaced filter, relay, and I can hear the relay trying to shut the pump off but it will intermittently click on and off until its good and ready to stop running. The fuel system has pressure, injectors pulse, and there is plenty of fuel in the fuel rail. The thing will not start as long as the pump(s) are priming, even though there is plenty of fuel. As soon as they stop, it fires right up and runs fine. It does it only when cold, and with both tanks. What tells the fuel pumps to shut off after they are primed for a start? Thanks.
Are you sure its the fuel pump that keeps running? I believe some of the I6 trucks had a fan on the fuel rail to cool it down to prevent vapor locking.
Its the pumps that are on for sure. The key is loose in the ignition, and it isn't fully straight when I turn it on to start it. It cranks over just fine, just won't start. I know for a fact that the cats are clogged, and started it with open headers and it ran fine but was loud. I had to let the pump run till it stopped first, but it started right up. I have bought a new key switch and ignition switch. Will install them tomorrow. I have a spare parts truck with another ecu to try out. However, its 95 and my truck is an early 93 I believe. Both are 4.9 manual tranny trucks. Are the computers the same for the trucks or do I need to find a computer from 93? Thanks again.
