I just replaced all my glow plugs and she didn't want to start this morning. It was about 50 degrees out, but I left her plugged-in over night. What's next? The glow plug relay?
At least check it first. You should see battery voltage on the output when the relay is energized. But at 50 w/o GPs, it should at least try to start with some stumbling & white smoke...
It should of started fairly quickly especially since it was plugged in over night and 50 degrees outside. Thats fairly warm to even think about plugging the truck in. I'd check the relay or scan to see if you are getting any other codes popping up.
I'll head to Autozone and see if they can pull any codes. If the relay doesn't cost too much, I'll go ahead and replace it anyway. I replaced the batteries and the alternator last December, but I'll have them tested while I'm there.
Question about the starter: Are starters either GOOD or BAD? Or is there an in-between?
autozone wont have a code reader to read your truck i dont believe
as far as the glow plug relay, the GPR109 is only like $22 compare to the $80 you will pay if you have them look up the one for your truck...i will be goig to get this one from Oreilly's sometime this week
and as far as the starter i dont think there should be an inbetween and you would know if the starter was bad . . it would probably just click
That's what I thought about the starter. I'll head to O'reily's after work and ask for that part #. I like O'reily's much more than Autozone anyway. Hopefully the relay solves the problem. Tonight, I won't plug-in and we'll see if she starts in the morning.
Thanks for y'alls help!
Oh, are there any auto parts shops that would have a code reader for my truck? I'd rather not spend $100 at a mechanic's shop to find-out that my windshield wipers don't work....lol.

i dont believe any auto parts stores have them but you might be able to find a shop to do it for a reasonable price
i also like Oreillys much better than AutoZone but when i went there, it was the only store within like 2 hours without the part i need so i need to go to a different one the next city over

You are correct, Autozone will not be able to read codes on our truck. The GPR109 is a NAPA number I believe. Starters do have in-between problems...starters drag sometimes (though work) and solenoids/bendix drives go bad - but the starter still works (they just sound god awful).
I know this has been discussed, but have y'all concluded that the GPR109 is safe? I've read that it draws 4x the amps that the original relay draws. Also, does everything fit just like the original relay, or will I need any extra electrical connections?Autozone and Granger also carry relays that will work. Any preference between Napa, Autozone, or Granger? Or the GPR110?

DRAWS or is CAPABLE OF HANDLING 4x as many amps?? A relay has a coil resistance that can affect the circuit, but it shouldn't draw that much more current form the control source. I put in a 40A contactor (relay) in my AC compressor on my house years ago after the 30A bit the big one. No problems since. You definitley don't want to go smaller than the load requires, going bigger is not a problem.
Yeah, starters can have an in-between. I didnt realize how weak mine had gotten till it finally crapped out and I put a new one in. Cranks much faster. These engines have to spin a certain rpm before it will fire. I think its around 200 rpms.
