The restricted Y-pipe was retro-fitted into 2000 models if someone complained about flutter. Or any vibration.

I remember people here (if I recall correctly) having the bellhousing inspection cover noise and getting the restricted y-pipe installed by a Ford dealer only to find it didn't solve anything.

Or something to that effect.

So, yeah, some 2000's might have it ... either from the factory, or retro-fitted by a dealer tech.

I went out to my truck but all the information that I had from Ford when I went through the flutter problem not the loose heat shields or inspection plates but the true flutter but they must be back at my home base 1750 miles from here.

Ford called it a resonate exhaust sound in the Y pipe and it didn't affect the driveablity of the truck and a fix was in the works but not available at that time. If I remember right that was in Nov of 00 the truck was fixed in Jan. My tuck has a 07/00 build date so it was one of the last 00 off the line (I found out later that some of the truck has 2001 parts).

The Y pipe flutter is a completely different sound from the heat shields and inspection plates I have had both, the true flutter sounds like a exhaust leak or bad lifter on the left side but it comes and goes with the change in RPM and if you are pulling a load it sounds like going to come appart.
